Direct Supervisor (Reporting to): Nurse Manager, Managing Physician

Job Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. This position administers chemotherapy infusion nursing care to patients in an office setting

2. Chemotherapy is performed in accordance with the physician's orders and under the direction and supervision of the physician

3. The RN is responsible for implementing the nursing process in accordance with the professional practice and office policy

4. The RN will provide quality cancer care to all patients. Understands and adheres to established company policies and regulatory procedures

5. Process chemotherapy orders, notifies physician of patient needs and changes in condition promptly

6. Documents all procedures and activities performed pertaining to chemotherapy dosing administration in the medical oncology information system

7. Maintains active awareness and responsibility for billing events created in the medical oncology information system based on manual documentation of chemotherapy dosing

8. Chemotherapy dose limit checking, adjustment and banding

9. This will include drug interaction checking (drug/drug, drug/allergy, drug/diagnosis and drug/gender)

10. Determines the amount and type of nursing needed by each individual patient

11. Regularly re-evaluates the needs of the patient

12. Counsels with the patient, family, significant others on nursing, teaching and related needs

13. Inserts intravenous cannulas, administers prescribed intravenous solutions and medications

14. Monitors and maintains infusion sites and systems

15. Evaluates response to prescribed therapy

16. Refers patient to Hospital Social Worker, Breast Cancer Navigator, Financial Counselor, and Dietitian when appropriate

17. Prepares clinical records and progress notes for each patient visit in a timely manner.

18. Participated in team huddles to assure that important information is conveyed to the other members of the office team

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Oncology certification or demonstrated commitment to obtaining certification

2. Excellent communication skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks in a pressured environment

3. Demonstrates the ability to work and communicate with a diversified population; ability to handle stressful situations; critical thinking skills

4. Strong analytical skills with in-depth knowledge of cancer and cancer therapy

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

2. Must have current RN licensure with the state of Virginia

3. Minimum two years’ experience in the provision of care nursing

4. Documented proficiency in Infusion Therapy

5. Documented proficiency in chemotherapy administration

6. Documented proficiency in PICC line care, VAD care, Hickman/Broviac care and maintenance

7. BLS and CPR certification
