GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to maintain grounds of commercial or public property. This position supervises small crews in planting, cultivating and related gardening activities.
PRIMARY DUTIES: This list represents the essential tasks performed by the position.
Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Directs crew and distributes gardening tasks to crew.
Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth; remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
Spray lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Water lawns and shrubs.
Repair fences, gates, walls, and walkways.
Paint fences and outbuildings.
Sharpen tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
Make minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mowers, spreaders, and weed eaters.
Knowledgeable of common and Latin names of plants; capable of recognizing diseases and pests of ornamental plants.
Operates both push and riding lawn equipment; operate other lawn maintenance equipment.
Make technical decisions on soil conditions, types of fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other materials needed for proper growth and maintenance of plants.
Able to install and repair irrigation systems. Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: “Education Requirements” refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
Requires High School diploma or GED and formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: “Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations” refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.
Requires valid driver’s license, prefer CDL. Requires license from ODAFF in category 3A, ornamental and turf.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: “Experience Requirements” refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Requires one year of related experience.
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL DEMANDS: “Physical Demands” refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Requires medium work involving standing or walking all of the time, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis, and considerable dexterity and skill in operating machinery, tools, or office equipment.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS: “Unavoidable Hazards” refers to unusual conditions in the work environment that may cause illness or injury.
The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards. May sometimes be exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, fumes or noxious odors, traffic and animals/wildlife.
SENSORY (ADA) REQUIREMENTS: “Sensory Requirements” refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell necessary to perform the tasks required by the position efficiently.
The position may require normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of taste, sense of smell, depth perception, or texture perception.
