Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACSS), an L3 Technologies and Thales Company, is a leader in safety avionics systems that increase safety, situational awareness and efficiency for aircraft operators in all phases of flight. ACSS products are operating in commercial, corporate and military aircraft. ACSS is a division of L3 Aviation Products (L3 AP). L3 AP is a leading provider of commercial and military avionics with unsurpassed performance, quality and customer support. L3 AP manufactures a diverse line of safety- and efficiency-enhancing products that sets the standard for next-generation requirements, including configurable voice and data recorders, collision avoidance systems, navigation products, display systems and processors. L3 AP also offers aftermarket services, including MRO and integrated performance-based logistics for military and commercial systems.

The Product Development Manager will be a key part of the product management team that is responsible for identifying market opportunities, creating a pipeline of new ideas, defining innovative products and driving new product development plans. As a manager in L3 ACSS’s Strategy and Product Development Group, this role provides the opportunity to interact with ACSS’s Leadership Team and other top leaders in the company as you will be a key team member in the development and implementation ACSS’s global strategic direction and product portfolio roadmaps. You will own and champion the product portfolio roadmaps from new product creation through product execution. The general roles and responsibilities will minimally include:
Address priority strategy questions facing ACSS and define products to meet and fulfill the strategy and roadmaps. Identifies strategic inflection points in the market place for core and non-traditional business initiatives including partnerships and adjacent market segments.
Develop deep understanding of the competition and market needs, including knowledge of procurement policies and certification procedures, and lead efforts to influence key industry and trade associations
Provide thought leadership on latest technology trends, identify strategic opportunities for both existing and new markets and help to build relationship with current and potential customers
Accelerate the creation of market insights and new ideas through opportunities such as ideation workshops and campaigns to fill the business development funnel.
Provide leadership on pre-screening of new idea proposals – will need to understand relevant dimensions related to idea proposals such as: market, maturity, suitability, capabilities, risk and value-capture analysis
Lead cross-functional teams to conceptualize and define products, create proof of concepts, and develop/present business cases to the Leadership Team for decision making
Generate new value for existing core map products and their respective lifecycle management and maintenance
Obtain and Represent the voice of the customer during product definition, product design and bug triage
Translate business priorities into actionable, clearly communicated product stories for engineering
Own discrete projects with accountability for the output and definition of implications
Function as key stakeholder for new product development – will be proactive in engaging internal teams (R&D, Operations, Quality, Finance, Sales, Business Units and Regional Product Management), building consensus, create support – be a “product evangelizer”

Qualifications
Experienced senior product manager and innovator (8+ years in a relevant environment)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline and/or equivalent experience
Engineering background and/or experience required
Deep understanding of the aerospace and defense markets, trends and dynamics
Embrace ambiguity with creative and innovative thinking
Strategic and business thinker (experience in creating and presenting business cases)
Proficient at building strong relationships with engineering and cross-functional development teams; motivate through clear direction
Strong customer-facing skill and ability to present product roadmap and lead technical discussions
Strong awareness of technology trends and their potential influence
Able to influence and communicate with impact in several levels of the company
Able to perform within a culturally diverse and geographically distributed team
Excellent written & verbal English communication skills, multiple languages skills a plus
Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint is mandatory
Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
