WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Consultant for our Sacramento, CA office. Duties and Responsibilities: -Be a key member of the team that supports the Authority on a range of issues and activities with specific, but not exclusive, focus on preparing externally-facing published documents, public and Board presentations, conferences, symposiums and related materials which disseminate information about the status and progress of high-speed rail. -Participate as a significant member of the team that creates high-profile and detailed business plans, and other reports requiring multi-disciplinary, and cross-departmental interaction. Materials produced by this team are often developed at the direction of and in consultation with senior executives and undergo significant review by the executive team. -Draft and edit various types of materials viewed by external stakeholders, elected officials and the media. Some of these documents include publications where both the content and delivery must meet statutory requirements and be approved by the Authority’s Board of Directors, submitted to the legislature, the federal government or the public. -Be an essential member of the team in planning for, researching, drafting, reviewing and editing documents as well as supporting materials including presentations, speaking points and fact sheets. -Function as point of contact for researching information or data and integrating it into multiple externally-facing documents or work products. This includes applying analytical approaches to the research process while examining the data or information for missing and/or inconsistent details as well as understanding the significance or influence of the data. -Support the Authority in responding to inquiries from stakeholders, and researching information for media inquiries and public disclosure requests. -Be equally comfortable in a high performing and dynamic team environment and decision process as well as working independently to meet both deadlines and specific delivery requirements. -Be adept at transforming detailed policy or technical content into clear and understandable language for public and non-technical audiences. Support the development, production and delivery of materials and publications, including helping to plan and coordinate a development and review schedule and process. -Be comfortable in navigating a complex environment including the ability to adapt to shifting priorities, changes in structure and/or functions. -Organize meetings with relevant staff and partners to conduct research as well as focus on quality, accuracy, timeliness and consistency of draft/final reports and other team deliverables. -Be responsible maintaining production schedules, records, and file management. Act as point of contact for project status updates and task trafficking. Provide support functions such as scheduling meetings, work planning, and document management. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Planning or related field)
3+ years’ experience in directly relevant endeavors (public policy, political science, planning, communications, legislative affairs, transportation or applicable field)
Strong analytic and research skills; ability to be proactive and resourceful in collecting, interpreting, and synthesize data and information; ability to organize ideas and present findings in a logical manner.
Superior writing, editing and proofing skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Proven experience converting detailed information and/or complex issues into understandable summaries and/or succinct messages and presentations for diverse audiences including the public, stakeholders and policy makers.
Strong communication (verbal and written), planning, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively plan and manage multiple assignments.
Experience with scheduling and priority setting and preparing materials with short deadlines and limited information.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe applications as well as an understanding of Google Docs and SharePoint or other collaboration sites. Skilled at Excel, including tracking and monitoring data and schedules as well as familiarity with pivot tables.
Experience working in a digital/online environment and comfort with recommending and transitioning or modifying current workflows for greater efficiencies, version control, and faster work product delivery.
Ability to work effectively under the pressure of tight time frames and rigid deadlines as well as adaptable to changing environments and fluctuations in priorities.
Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, ability to communicate with executives, senior staff and their immediate staffs; skill in interacting with technical specialists and other team members.
Comfortable with handling confidential information.
If invited to continue in selection process, three writing samples must be submitted and interviews may include a skillsets review.
