JOB SUMMARY: The Workshop Facilitator acts under the direction of the Communities for Safe Kids Supervisor. Candidate should have a strong understanding of violence prevention and social justice issues (including, but not limited to: mindfulness, bullying, oppression, child abuse, and domestic violence), and have experience working with students grades K-5.
During the school year from October to June, the workshop facilitator’s duties include:
Facilitating multiple violence prevention workshops a week, serving students grades K-5 in the Portland-metro area. This includes teaching and managing 4 to 5 classes of 15 to 30 students a day.
Puppeteering for 10 to 15 minutes for each workshop
Preparing and transporting materials for workshops
Administering and organizing post-surveys for students and school staff
Attending team meetings, supervisor 1:1s, and required agency trainings
Meeting agency protocol and deadlines for timesheet entry, mileage expenses, and IT requests
During the summer from mid-June to September when workshops aren’t taking place, the workshop facilitator’s duties may also include:
Updating program materials based on post-evaluation survey results, verbal feedback from students and school staff, and facilitator engagement
Conducting a yearly review of latest research regarding mindfulness, diversity, bullying and cyberbullying, child abuse, domestic violence, and healthy friendships
Developing additional program materials based on program and curriculum need
Additional administration duties related to improvement of program curriculum
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Workshop Facilitation:
Travel to designated schools in Portland-metro area to facilitate workshops for students during regular school hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Facilitate and prepare for workshops on violence prevention with students Grades K-5, including puppeteering, leading activities, and classroom management.
Coordinate with school staff on student disclosures.
Program Support:
Provide support for co-facilitators and assistants during workshops.
Attend/participate in weekly C4SK team meetings.
Program Development:
Works closely with the Supervisor in providing feedback for program scripts and supplemental program materials for students.
Quality Assurance:
Administers and organizes post-surveys for students and school staff.
General:
Contributes to the team by working effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds;
Completes accurate, legible and timely documentation and reporting of services delivered in accordance with the agency’s management information system;
Meets program service standards set forth by the Youth and Families Service Director regarding quantity, type and quality of services to be delivered to students and school staff.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree preferred in social work, psychology, education, theatre, or related fields/experience
Experience working with children grades K-5 in a school, camp, advocacy, or theatrical setting
Experience with public speaking, classroom facilitation, or group facilitation
Experience with and knowledge of bicultural backgrounds
Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures
Strong interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing
Ability to engage with a broad spectrum of community members across all age ranges
Excellent coordination and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks
Willingness to work a varied weekday schedule
Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
Work effectively within a strength-based service delivery model
Computer skills including familiarity with contemporary software
Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Impact NW
STRONGLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with or knowledge around pertinent social justice issues (including, but not limited to: mindfulness, bullying, oppression, child abuse, and domestic violence)
Bilingual in Spanish, Russian, or Vietnamese
THIS JOB ALSO REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Consistent attendance and punctuality for workshop facilitation
Leading facilitation of workshops for 25+ students K-5, school staff, and families for at least one hour at a time without a break
Standing, bending, holding arm up, and squatting to perform 15 minute puppet shows
Repetitive motion, prolonged sitting and standing, and vocal projection
Moderate lifting and carrying
Ability to efficiently travel in order to transport workshop materials
