Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Leadwill be primarily responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery required for production in a growing industrial packaging company based in Newark, CA. The production machinery includes metal forming, stamping, pressing machines, saws, CNC routers, ink printers, chamfers, rivet machines, central dust collection system, air compressors, forklifts, and related material handling and production equipment and facilities.

The ideal candidate will be hard-working, hands-on, and a strong team-player with a proven record of safety, preventing machine downtime, minimizing of repair costs, and improving productivity in a production environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair machinery in 3 major categories of maintenance needs:
  • Hydraulic presses
  • Electric motors associated with hydraulic presses
  • Safety "Gates," Electric Light Fences
  • Lead Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) program
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine scheduled maintenance work on machinery
  • Create and maintain PM schedules and downtime reports for each machine
  • Create and update ISO procedures and documentation
  • Work with suppliers to research parts and tools needed for production and maintenance
  • Create and maintain a spare parts list for each machine
  • Order, inventory, and control all spare parts
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment and systems
  • Install new equipment
  • Identify and implement new projects to improve safety, quality, and productivity
  • Work with management team to plan future investments and improvements
  • Operate machine tools, such as lathes and grinders, to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or setup of machinery
  • Provide basic operations and maintenance training to production operators
  • Respond immediately to requests from operators and production supervisors
  • Follow all safety policies

Job Requirements:

  • Graduation from a trade school, college, or military service preferred
  • Millwright or other industry certifications preferred
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical systems, including pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanisms, PLC’s and other electrical/electronic components
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to find the right suppliers to keep the production team running and minimize downtime.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical specifications
  • Ability to work to exacting standards
  • Mathematical and mechanical ability
  • An analytical approach to problem-solving
  • Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, physical strength and stamina
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others – especially production team members and suppliers
  • Responsible work attitude
  • Interest in keeping up-to-date in the field
  • Open-minded and eager to learn from others
  • Eager to teach production operators how to better maintain and operate equipment
  • Has a passion to work with others to continually improve safety, quality, and productivity.
