As a member of the global Noble Energy Legal Team residing in Houston, this position will be responsible for managing complex commercial litigation and other disputes in multiple jurisdictions with an emphasis on oil and gas related matters. This position will also support the General Counsel in connection with Board reporting and enterprise risk management.

Detailed Description
Litigation management

Serve as point of contact for company for litigation matters.
Effectively manage outside legal counsel to deliver results consistent with business strategy and value while managing client expectations.
Ensure that litigation is managed per risk and business goals. Develop and embed litigation management guidelines.
Conclude disputes effectively and efficiently and reduce inventory of cases.
Manage litigation budget.
Proactively report significant developments to management.
Serve as liaison between outside legal counsel and client groups and collaborate effectively with legal counsel for business units on litigation strategy, management and support at the onset of the dispute or litigation.
Design case strategy in collaboration with business units and legal counsel for business units and insure that business unit attorney is aware of significant developments.
Proactively assess opportunities for litigation to advance business goals (including as plaintiff), with input from the legal counsel for business units.
Serve as GC representative in litigation matters and effectively report developments, changes to risk profile and other matters relevant to senior management.
Consistently assess and communicate with business and management (as necessary) regarding opportunities for early case resolution.
Representative cases include: royalty disputes and claims to quiet title; environmental and Louisiana Coastal Zone litigation; personal injury, construction, and general commercial disputes.
Support EHS attorney as needed in managing environmental claims.
Support HR attorney as needed in managing employment-related claims.
Claims/insurance and reporting

Support GC and governance team on Board reporting.
Assess litigation contingency reserves and support SEC litigation disclosures.
Support and partner with contracts attorney and overall legal team on indemnity and insurance and related contract terms.
Serve as legal liaison to company insurance team.
Prepare reports to Board re D&O insurance.
Respond to third-party demands for indemnity and subpoenas; support affirmative indemnity and insurance claims.
Enterprise Risk Management

Support General Counsel in connection with Enterprise Risk Management.
Identify industry litigation trends and act proactively to avoid claims.
Engage with and support EHS, HR Compliance and Security as requested on internal investigations and policy development.
Support and lead team projects and training as requested by the GC.

Job Requirements
J.D. or L.L.M degree from an ABA accredited law school and minimum five years of legal experience relevant to Company’s business operations
Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas or a comparable jurisdiction, and must be in good standing
Knowledge of and experience with litigation, including electronic discovery, with emphasis on oil and gas related matters
Strong writing skills, including the ability to draft dispute resolution documentation and other legal communications
Strong analytical and advisory skills, including the ability to review, evaluate and counsel business colleagues on complex and routine legal questions relating to various compliance issues
Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with senior management, outside legal counsel, and opposing party's counsel
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and outside counsel
Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new information technology systems with ease
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work with limited supervision
