Organization Summary:
Shrub Oak International School is the new benchmark in autism education. We are a private day and boarding school in northern Westchester County, serving the needs of an international coed population of children, adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum. Shrub Oak is a school where each student is respected as an individual and surrounded by experts who care and work to bring out each student’s greatest strengths. Our curriculum brings together the most advanced and successful evidence-based clinical and academic approaches in ASD education to prepare our students for independent adult life and employment. Offering two distinct educational programs, with both day and boarding options, Shrub Oak truly is a school like no other.

Position Summary

Reporting to the COO, he/she is responsible for the hands-on administration and management of our 24/7 operations and facilities management, for our main building (over 300,000 square feet), buildings on the property, and campus (over 127 acres). Through his/her hands-on leadership, the Head of Facilities directs, manages and coordinates the delivery of essential facility maintenance and custodial services, ensures compliance with all applicable laws and building codes, recommends priorities for needed repairs and renovations, directs construction renovations to the facility and campus to accommodate our exponential growth, and directs the development of contingency plans for emergency conditions. He/she must have a strong systems background to be able to operationalize needed areas of operations and facilities management.

Preferred Education and Experience (i.e. certifications)

BS or Associates Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Building Construction Technology or closely related field, or the equivalent experience
Minimum 5-7 years’ progressive experience in a building facilities and operations management position with experience in construction, maintenance operations or repair work in one or more specialty trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry or HVAC
2-5 years of experience in a supervisory role ideally overseeing the function, or multiple areas within a maintenance function. School maintenance experience preferred.
Valid drivers license

Demonstrated working knowledge of school or other campus facilities, grounds and site management, operations and practices
Demonstrated working knowledge of safety, regulations, procedures and security in campus, workplace and public buildings, as well as applicable codes, laws, rules and regulations governing facilities and construction
Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise and handle a program of buildings and site maintenance; Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and blueprints
Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files, and prepare reports and spreadsheets
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to all levels of staff, students, and customers, clients, general public and vendors
Superior customer and client focus, ensuring an understanding of their needs to determine the appropriate course of action, and timely delivery of service(s)
Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and think constructively and analytically in varied and emergency situations, where facts/situations are constantly evolving
Demonstrated ability to project manage multiple large and small projects, tasks and responsibilities simultaneously
Ability to adapt, remain flexible and have the ability to make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure where situations/circumstances are continually evolving
Ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and database software, as well as proactively design systems solutions
Ability to use good judgment, remain dependable, demonstrate initiative and tact
Ability to effectively draft, manage and handle budgets and financial forecasts
Ability to negotiate contracts and vendor agreements
Ability to use complex machines and equipment
Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee the work of staff and external vendors

Work Environment

The work is regularly performed in a combination with the office site buildings and throughout the external grounds, and can be exposed to among other things, dust, odors, oil and noise

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, drive, stand, walk, use their hands, and lift materials up to 35 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, the position requires overnight on-call duty and the ability to work during nonstandard hours whenever the need or demand arises.

Compensation: Up to 90K based on experience, together with a competitive benefits package.

Other unique responsibilities or conditions not previously listed i.e. bilingual, driver’s license, etc.

Full time living provisions on campus may be available.
