Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago is a 44-year old non-profit that helps clients buy, fix, and keep their homes. We focus on residents in challenged neighborhoods on the South and West sides. NHS of Chicago’s theory of change is that sustainable homeownership leads to stronger neighborhoods and generational financial growth. Homeownership vests residents in neighborhoods, and encourages community involvement, investment, crime reduction, school stability, racial equity, and opportunities to better the lives of families of all backgrounds. We provide homeownership education, financial-wellness classes, and homeownership counseling to help people become homeowners. As a non-profit mortgage lender, we provide loans and construction services to help clients through the often complicated process of rehab that many homes in Chicago require in order to be livable. We administer down-payment assistance to help make purchasing a home possible and grants programs that help fund repairs. Our redevelopment group works to create affordable homes. We work at the grass-roots level to promote and sustain homeownership in target areas, address blight, and empower residents. We partner with other housing and governmental organizations to shape policy and create programs to support Chicago-area residents. We are seeking a talented and analytically-inclined AmeriCorps VISTA to help collect ongoing feedback through the client survey framework we have developed. The VISTA will build out additional surveys, “test” the full client experience to look for opportunities for improvements, conduct community needs assessments, and help staff leverage our new platforms for on-line education in a client-focused way. This is a great opportunity to help our non-profit organization focus on the client experience and deliver services to strengthen neighborhoods and build the lives of those who live in them.
Member Duties :
During your year with NHS of Chicago, you will implement surveys focused on understanding client and community needs and collecting information post-intervention to assess impact. Comfort with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint and aptitude in learning new software tools such as SurveyMonkey and Salesforce will serve you well. You will support our staff in their use of remote training tools for webinars and on-line classes. Virtual services have become increasingly crucial, and you will help us leverage these engagement platforms in a client-friendly manner. Your efforts will help shape the future of NHS and those we serve as we implement our new strategic plan. You will analyze the holistic client experience across NHS departments and services, and make recommendations to help strengthen NHS of Chicago as a client-focused organization. This promises to be a rewarding year, and you will have a plethora of accomplishments to show for the time you spend with us.
