School Nursing/Wellness Specialist

If so, the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) is seeking a School Nursing/Wellness Specialist to join the Student Support section team. Our team is a high functioning, highly motivated, collaborative team focusing on improving outcomes for students and ensuring Utah has safe and healthy students and schools.

Principal Duties

As a School Nursing/Wellness Specialist, you will:
Act as USBE liaison to the Healthy Living through Environment, Policy, and Improved Clinical Care Program (EPPIC) (including the school nursing specialist) in the Utah Department of Health
Ensure compliance with Medication administration and delegation laws
Ensure compliance with Vision screening laws
Serve as a member of the Safe and Healthy Schools team at the USBE
Contribute to the creation and updating of prevention, intervention and postvention policy and procedure
Contribute to the creating and updating of policy and procedures related to student physical, social, emotional well being
Contribute to the implementation of the USBE Strategic Plan
Provide Technical Assistance (TA) to school districts and charter schools regarding health and wellness
Provide professional learning for school district and charter school staff regarding student health care plans (including those embedded in 504 Accommodation Plans and Individual Education Programs [IEPs]) and student and staff health and wellness
Provide professional learning for school district and charter school staff regarding chronic health conditions, disease prevention, mental health screening, and coordination of services at the school and community level
Networking with other state agencies as well as community organizations to ensure students and families have access to needed services and to increase the impact of services and supports
Collaborate with the USBE Child Nutrition Program to increase student access to nutritious meal and snacks
Collaborate with the USBE Health and Fitness Specialist to ensure implementation of the Health Standards

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this position will possess:
a Bachelor's degree in nursing (preference may be given to applicants with a Master's degree in nursing)
a current DOPL license
at least 3 years experience serving as a school nurse, including writing student health care plans
extensive knowledge of the Utah Nurse Practice Act
experience presenting to individuals and groups about health-related topics
