Pharmacist II/San Angelo/Carlsbad 1. Supervises the dispensing of drugs and directs activities involving pre-packaging, ordering, receiving, and properly storing drugs and supplies 2. Supervises the activities of the pharmacy staff. 3. Serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other committees, as appropriate, that are related to Pharmacy functions. 4. Provides in-service training to acquaint physicians, pharmacy staff, and nursing personnel with current pharmacy policies and procedures, meeting departmental and facility requirements. 5. Meets the Affirmative Action Goals in selecting, promoting, and terminating pharmacy personnel in order to comply with the facility Equal Employment Opportunity Policy and Affirmative Action Plan. 6. Performs staff evaluations. 7. Communicate through proper channels departmental problems and activities. 8. Assures completion of the ICF Quarterly Reviews which Meets ICF standards. 9. Utilizes computer skills to efficiently complete job tasks. 10. Serves as on the “on-call” rotation for pharmacy services Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment.

Essential Job Functions:
) Ensures Pharmacy adherence to all ICF/IDD regulations, federal and state laws pertaining to the practice of Pharmacy and the handling of all medications, including controlled substances. 2) Assists the Director of Pharmacy with development and implementation of Pharmacy Policy and Procedure with at least annual updates. 3) Assumes responsibility for maintaining an adequate inventory of drugs and needed operational supplies. 4) Partners with State Office Pharmacy Reimbursement Department personnel to coordinate Pharmacy’s participation in the Medicare Part D Drug Plans to acquire the best plan for each individual served and minimizes rejected claims. 5) Interprets physicians' orders, screening for possible adverse reactions, polypharmacy and/or allergies (i.e., performs DUR). 6) Accurately dispenses correct medications for safe use by resident and staff administering these medications to the patients. 7) Supervises pharmacy technicians according to Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations in regards to the dispensing of prescription medications and assures the workload is evenly distributed and priority matters are tended to quickly. 8) Provides professional pharmacy consultation services to allied professionals at San Angelo State Supported Living Center as needed to provide for optimum pharmaceutical care for the population of San Angelo State Supported Living Center. 9) Performs data entry tasks in order to update patient profiles, add new drug orders, fill out-patient labeled prescriptions (for resident going on furlough) or checks and verifies all functions are performed by pharmacy technicians. 10) Participates in the inventory control systems. Ensuring proper procurement of medications required for distribution are ordered appropriately and that par levels are maintained adequately. 11) Participates in the Medicare Part D plan selection, claim submission and rejection resubmission processes. 12) Researches and prepares patient DUR’s, DUE’s, and ADR reporting. 13) Monitors lab values prior to dispensing medication with proper documentation. 14) Provides pharmaceutical consultation services and participates in the training of pharmacy staff. 15) Assists in conducting pharmaceutical surveys, inspections, and investigations. 16) Rotates with Pharmacy Director, Pharmacist III, and Staff Pharmacist taking after-hours calls which may require a pharmacist’s assistance on site at facility after hours. 17) Serves in the capacity of the Director of Pharmacy role in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy, which may include basis administrative duties. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Experience in institutional pharmacy. Experience in Unit-dose drug distribution. Experience in an Intermediate or long-term Health Care Environment.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy

Initial Selection Criteria:
Licensed to practice as a pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, plus one (1) year of work experience as a pharmacist

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities. Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
