Position Title: Software Design/Development/Certification Engineer

Position Summary:
Leonardo DRS is seeking an exceptionally qualified Software Certification Engineer to join our recognized team of experts to provide a solution for the U.S. Air Force’s T-X program. Leonardo DRS ties together an exceptional T-100 Team comprised of Leonardo Aircraft’s world class aircraft powered by Honeywell engines integrated with state-of the-art ground-based training from CAE USA. The T-100 is purpose-built for a wide range of training capabilities, long-term reliability, and cost effective operations. As a member of the Chief Engineer’s Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) Team, the Software Design/Development/Certification Engineer will perform technical and administrative engineering tasks to secure and sustain all software certifications in support of customer requirements. The breadth of efforts spans software assurance, flight safety (airworthiness), spectrum, others.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Allocates system software requirements to software configuration items.
Participates in software design trade studies; recommends solution approaches to leadership.
Works with suppliers optimize design, integrate solutions and resolve software issues.
Compiles required customer certification documentation for submission to regulatory agencies.
Identifies problems and collects relevant information for analysis; apply tools and logic to diagnose and develop theories on possible causes; looks for root causes, not just symptoms; uses judgment and experience to complement data; develops practical and relevant solutions; seeks expertise or escalate problems when appropriate.
Conducts scheduled reviews of processes and production milestones within the Integrated Product Team Leads and provides reports, action tracking, etc.
Reviews metrics from within the IPT and provides feedback, improvement opportunities and reports to appropriate stakeholders and leaders.
Represents the T-100 Engineering Team in customer technical interchanges.

Basic Qualifications:
Degree in Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 15 years combined experience in any of the following: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Design Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
Minimum of 10 years of experience as an individual contributor or leader in software design, development, test and verification specializing in the areas of system software certification.
Military fixed wing, high performance aircraft development or modification experience.
Extensive knowledge of software certification practices and standards within the software industry.
Thorough knowledge of and breadth of experience with Software Development Project methodologies to include Agile, Waterfall, Spiral and RUP.
Experience in International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
Strong interpersonal skills in order to influence collaborate and work effectively with all levels of internal and external leadership as part of an international team.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Must possess or be able to acquire a Secret Clearance or above.
