Job Description:
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Northeast Regional Office is seeking an Environmental Specialist in the Land Unit. This position will perform technical work implementing the Missouri Solid Waste Management Laws and Regulations to evaluate and determine environmental compliance with the applicable laws and regulations and assist the general public and regulated entities.

Job Duties:
· Schedule and conduct environmental inspections at permitted facilities.
· Provide compliance assistance to regulated entities and the general public on solid waste issues, often on-site.
· Receive and enter citizen concerns regarding solid waste.
· Schedule and conduct investigations into citizen’s concerns regarding the improper management or disposal of solid waste.
· Prepare documentation (permits, reports, correspondence, photographs, data entry and forms) that is timely and accurate.
· Attend meetings and give presentations regarding management of waste as needed.
· Performs other related work as assigned.

Qualifications:
Environmental Specialist I –
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science, Geology, Engineering, Agronomy, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field.
(Professional experience in environmental protection, environmental or ecological assessment, environmental public health programs, wastewater/public drinking water inspections, or environmental program planning and coordination may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required college education.)

Environmental Specialist II –
One or more years of experience as an Environmental Specialist I, Water Specialist I, or Chemist I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science, Geology, Engineering, Agronomy, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field; and,
Two or more years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental or ecological assessment, environmental public health programs, wastewater/public drinking water inspections, or environmental program planning and coordination.
(24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute for one year of the required experience.)
(A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute for the required experience.)
(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required college education.)

Environmental Specialist III –
Two or more years of experience as an Environmental Specialist II, Water Specialist II, or Chemist II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental Science or Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science, Geology, Engineering, Agronomy, Forestry, Soil Science, Ecology, Wildlife Management, Agriculture, Animal Science, Natural Resource Management, Soil Conservation, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field; and,
Four or more years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental or ecological assessment, environmental public health programs, wastewater/public drinking water inspections, or environmental program planning and coordination.
(24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute for one year of the required experience.)
(A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the specified fields may substitute for two years of the required experience.)
(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required college education.)
