Duties and Responsibilities
Build effective working knowledge as needed to successfully provide operational support for the assigned enterprise applications.
Facilitate the formulation of recommendations that help ensure operational success of business functions. Seek out and interpret customer feedback. Guide the development of the operational support process requirements.
Identify, evaluate, and recommend solutions to meet emerging operational support process requirements.
Manage application ecosystems as assigned. Help ensure that we have the necessary technical solutions to effectively and efficiently provide operational support in order to meet the business objectives.
Manage, periodically review, and strive to ensure the accuracy and completeness of our operational support processes documentation.
Monitor the health of applications using available tools and technologies to detect failures and degradation. Identify and recommend improvements as needed to improve our monitoring capabilities.
Provide event management capabilities in support of the Incident Management process.
Perform impact analysis, alert correlations to recover applications to a fully functional state, based on documented procedures. Escalate and engage Subject Matter Experts and on-call personnel, as required, to ensure production operational assurance.
Execute approved and scheduled requests in support of maintenance activities and business process executions. Identify and recommend improvements as needed to improve our support capabilities.
Follow defined escalation paths when needed, where defined by escalation policies.
Report on metrics that support key performance indicators, audit requests, and key risk indicator trends. Identify and recommend improvements as needed to improve our metrics and their utility.
Keep abreast of the relevant industry trends by perusing technical journals and periodicals.
Regularly monitor relevant forums where job-related issues are announced and discussed. Stay informed of related problems and issues as they appear and are announced. Pass on technical comments and suggestions that may be beneficial to colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Management Information Systems or Computer Science and 5 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for system and/or application administration, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or equivalent education/training or experience.
Considerable working knowledge of system and/or application administration as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodology.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with system and/or application administration.
Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluation, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrates awareness of the business priorities and objectives.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
Strong task management, personal time management, and change management skills with the ability to guide complex tasks to timely completion.
Possesses a high degree of analytical skills and ability to assess the impact of problems and known errors on disparate business systems.

Functional knowledge of at least one programming language.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Ability to work a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours, as directed.
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications
Familiarity with ITIL foundations as demonstrated through formal training and/or certification or through practical experience in developing and/or implementing ITIL compliant processes.
Demonstrated ability to support ERP applications such as student information systems, financial aid systems, human resource systems, accounts receivable systems, document management systems, operational data stores, data marts, etc.
Demonstrated ability to support Apache or Tomcat.
Demonstrated ability to support application development solutions such as Subversion, GitLab, or Jenkins.
Demonstrated ability to write shell scripts to automate tasks.
Demonstrated ability to utilize Git, Ansible, or Puppet.
Demonstrated ability to utilize containerization and orchestration tools.
Functional knowledge of LDAP or Radius.
Functional knowledge of reporting software such SAS, Cognos, and JasperReports.
Functional knowledge of Graylog or Zabbix.
