The Professional Support Lawyers (PSLs) at Withers are an integral part of the firm's knowledge management function. Working closely with attorneys and in collaboration with the Library and Knowledge Services team they are responsible for ensuring that everyone in the firm has access to the legal knowledge and information they need in order to complete their work to the highest possible standards. This role will primarily support the firm's Private Client & Tax attorneys in California but will work with PSLs and attorneys in other offices to ensure firm-wide sharing of knowledge and information.

Standard Forms and Knowledge Management

Support the West Coast Forms Committee in ensuring the creation and ongoing maintenance of internal standard form documents to suit the needs of the Private Client & Tax team
Active involvement in the creation and updating of internal standard form documents using Contract Express
Ensure that essential knowledge content for the PCT teams (such as standard forms, knowhow and precedent documents) is easily accessible to attorneys via the firm's intranet and Knowledge Search Portal
Precedents and Current Awareness

Taking the lead on internal projects to create, collate and share 'white paper' summaries of key concepts for dissemination to clients
Provide legal technical input for external marketing materials such as stop press alerts, articles, presentations, blog posts or tweets
Create client bulletins on important developments in case law, statute and market practice
Firm and Practice Development

Look for opportunities to collaborate with PSLs and attorneys in other Divisions and offices in order to cross-sell services and create global collections of knowledge
Keep track of market developments within knowledge management and maintain awareness of what other firms are doing

Skills and experience required
Strong academic credentials (JD required)
Admitted to practice law in the United States – preferably California but not essential
A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a law firm's Estate Planning/ Trusts and Estates group (applicants with additional experience also welcomed)
Familiarity with drafting complex estate and gift planning documents (ranging from revocable trusts to GRATs, ILITs, dynasty trusts to other wealth planning strategies)
Exposure to gift, estate and GST tax returns and the issues that arise in connection therewith
Experience with contributing to knowledge sharing initiatives within the legal sector (as a Knowledge Lawyer / Professional Support Lawyer or as an attorney)
Experience using Contract Express or similar document automation tools is desired but not essential
Strong project management, ability to balance a large number of competing priorities
Ability to handle matters independently, with minimal supervision
