POSITION INFORMATION

TITLE: RECREATION ASSISTANT (COMMUNITY SERVICES FLIGHT), NF-0189-II

1. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Performs and/or assists in the operation and maintenance of the Community Services Flight facilities. Inspects facilities to determine need for maintenance and repair. Reports any discrepancies to supervisor for repairs. Operates walking-type power mowers and/or simple riding-type mowers, with the potential for heavy physical effort (for example, on steep grades or slopes). Manually adjusts blades for cutting height, prepare gasoline for powered equipment, and clean and lubricate the mowers. Uses a variety of hand/power tools and equipment such as, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, seeders, and sprayers. Participates in the planting of flowers, bed maintenance, and sweeping of grounds including operating all equipment applicable to the job such as power tillers. Clears small trees and bushes using a handsaw, chainsaw, axe, hatchet, or clippers. Monitors exterior grounds around facilities. Picks up and disposes of litter, trims hedges, removes weeds from sidewalk and flower/rock beds using gardening tools. Performs minor facility maintenance tasks such as washing exterior of buildings with high pressure sprayer, replacing light bulbs, cleaning light fixtures, and air filters. Clears and cleans drainage system and improves grades to prevent erosion. Removes wind and rain damage, snow, ice and dirt from roads, walkways and parking lots. Performs other related duties as assigned.

2. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must have experience which provided a working familiarity, manual skills and knowledge to operate simple power equipment, such as powered push lawnmowers, leaf blowers, weed trimmers and low-pressure sprayer. Knowledge of basic hand tools such as hand-saws, hatchets, clippers. Must be able to read and follow simple signs and specific written and/or oral instructions involving duties with several distinct tasks or steps. Physically able to frequently live and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds and be able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 70 pounds. Able to actively bend, stoop, stand, reach, and work in awkward positions. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
