Summary:
“The Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO) is tasked with encouraging innovation, identifying promising technologies developed at Rush, and promoting commercialization of Rush developed technologies. The Technology Transfer Paralegal reports to the Innovation and Research Counsel and works closely with other members of ITMO as well as RUSH Legal. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.”
Responsibilities:
- Assists Innovational Technology Office and Counsel in Legal on day-to-day management of intellectual property and agreement portfolios.
- Processes incoming email communications in a timely manner to effectively maintain and keep IP database and electronic files current.
- Manages patent docketing deadlines including generating deadline reports.
- Manages annuities and maintenance fee schedules and payments.
- Assists in intellectual property disclosure management.
- Assists in management of licensing portfolio.
- Prepares standard letters and reports.
- May, on occasion, be asked to prepare and electronically file legal documents and communicate with USPTO to address any procedural matters.
- Gathers, organizes, summarizes, indexes, and maintains documents from various sources.
- Maintains a library of pre-approved form documents, contract clauses, templates, and historical documents, and adds or revises material, as needed.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required or HS Diploma + 5 years of experience.
- Paralegal degree or certificate required.
- Three years of related paralegal assistance with at least one year of experience in intellectual property
- Familiarity with the United States Patent and Trademark Office systems and other patent-related databases as well as the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Manual of Patent Examination Procedure (MPEP) required.
- Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word and Power Point; knowledge of patent docketing software systems (CPI and Inteum) required.
- Proficient in designing and producing high quality reports and presentations.
- Strong critical thinking, problem analysis, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Ability and desire to function both collaboratively and independently, each within and in support of a cohesive and thoroughly integrated team.
- Approachable, positive, energetic and proactive nature, with excellent ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
