PURPOSE: This position has responsibility for the planning and administration of the various employee benefit programs, including but not limited to life, health, and disability insurance, as well as pension, and related retirement programs. Recommends new and/or improved employee benefits plans and cost-savings measures to the VP of Total Rewards. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements of various employee benefits programs. Supervision of benefits staff. Supervises and assists with the selection of the company’s benefits consultants, brokers, trustees, and necessary legal assistance. The position reports to the Vice President of Total Rewards and HR Administration
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluates and analyzes the benefit programs and services that Dana offers regularly and systemically and makes recommendations of those results based on Dana’s strategic plan, the market and budget.
Reviews and analyzes the benefits market to determine employee needs, trends, regulatory compliance, best practice to develop and enhance benefit programs to align with organizational goals.
Plans and directs the assessment and administration of benefit programs designed to ensure employees against loss of income due to illness, injury or retirement.
Directs preparation and distribution of written and verbal information, in conjunction with our vendors, to inform employee of benefits programs such as insurance plans, pension plans, 401(k), life and special employer sponsored plans.
Directs staff in providing customer service, information records, claims, etc.
Directs process of ensuring that our vendors receive accurate employee eligibility information in conjunction with HRIS, HRIT and Benefits Staff.
Provides updates to VP, Total Rewards and the HR Leadership team as needed; written and/or verbal.
Play a key role in collective bargaining agreement negotiations to include data analysis, plan design and cost containment recommendations.
Coordinate and implement transition of benefits programs for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
Maintain all benefit documentation including plan documents, amendments and SPD’s
Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Require 10+ years of experience in benefits administration and/or human resources with a focus on benefits.
Require progressive leadership experience, prefer previous director level experience
Education: minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, advanced degree preferred (masters or doctoral).
Professional human resources certification(s) preferred, example PHR, SPHR, CEBS.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Ability to work under minimal supervision while exercising significant autonomy.
Advanced competencies in the benefits design and administration field.
Proven experience in effectively leading a team, both local direct reports and international matrix reports.
Ability to strategize and operate on a global basis
Proficient technical skills with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated leadership, team building, problem solving, and decision making skills.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task effectively.
Ability to work in a team environment and independently
Courteous, clear, and professional manner in dealing with internal customers and external vendors and consultants.
Excellent organizational and communication skills – written and oral
