GENERAL PURPOSE

To perform semi-skilled, skilled, technical and administrative work in maintaining the facilities and equipment of the department. To maintain records and budget expenditures.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Employee is primarily responsible for supervising a team of seven Fleet Services Technicians. Indirectly supervises eleven (11) Fleet Service Technicians.
Essential Duties: Receives work requests and assigns work to mechanics.

Prepares reports, evaluations, service schedules, recording and updating.

Contacts customers about costs, delays and completed work.

Deletes and adds work orders, as necessary.

Sends/dispatches service personnel to problem and/or emergency situations.

Secures Fleet Services building and grounds at night.

Assists mechanics, when needed.

Participates in On-Call program.

Inspects newly purchased vehicles and equipment for adherence to the specifications.

Assists Fleet Services Manager in writing specifications on vehicles and equipment.

Assists in purchasing and/or leasing of vehicles and equipment.

Assists in replacement vehicle budget processing on maintenance cost throughout fiscal year.

Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and comply with City of Killeen driving policy.

Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

May serve as a member of various employee committees.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience:
(A) High school diploma or equivalent plus some specialized training in mechanics; and,
(B) Three (3) years related experience; or,
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Knowledge of price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment;
(B) Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities;
(C) Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment and facilities maintenance;
(D) Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment;
(E) Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures;
(F) Proficient in operation of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
(G) Proficient in use of MS Office suite;
(H) Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion;
(I) Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
(J) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
(K) Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
Supplemental Information: SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee must have a valid Texas Driver's License by date of hire. Employee must obtain an air conditioning certification, a state Motor Vehicle Inspector's (MVI) certification and a Texas State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire. Also, within 60 days of hire, individual will be trained to obtain and maintain a site specific Class C Underground Storage Tank (UST) Operator's License. Certification in vehicle maintenance preferred.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Mechanic's tools; personal computer, including fleet maintenance software; diagnostic equipment; calculator; copy and fax machines; telephone; safety equipment, as required; motor vehicle.
