The Senior Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) Engineer will be an integral part of the Digital Plant MES team within Waters Corporation in Taunton, MA. This position will play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of the Manufacturing MES/IT systems capabilities.

The candidate must have a strong knowledge of specialty chemical manufacturing in an automated environment, with a demonstrated track record of proficiency with MES and a proven ability to configure & troubleshoot.

Installation and configuration to the ISA-S88/S95 standard as well as an understanding of project management and the following Project phases is required:

Requirements definition
Detailed design generation
Software configuration
System integration and Qualification testing
Knowledge of control systems is desirable

Develop and maintain a new MES implementation/ support strategy that integrates process knowledge, equipment design, and quality standards with information technology to reduce downtime, elevate the level of regulatory compliance, and introduce efficiency gains through effective use of available technologies.
Map existing manufacturing processes (warehouse, equipment management & EBR) to MES
Design and deploy MES systems to replace paper based or manual systems including batch records, weigh & dispense, warehouse management and material tracking in a specialty chemical manufacturing environment
Develop and maintain project plans for implementing the MES
Develop and revise project plans and budgets, work with stakeholders to understand complex problems and focus on bringing issues to resolution, escalating as necessary to meet timelines
Responsible for the software and data maintenance of computer systems used for the development, testing, and the production of specialty chemical products.
Documentation and Validation of MES configuration and EBRs.
Work closely within the IT organization in the evaluation and implementation of MES application updates and changes.
Support software and configuration required for external systems interfaces such as Wonderware, SAP, LIMS, and Maximo.
Provide subject matter expertise to Operations, Engineering, and IT in the Waters’ MES solution and define and develop project deliverables in a highly agile environment.

Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Computer Science field with at least 10 years of experience working in the specialty chemical or pharmaceutical industry
Five or more years of experience working as a Developer or Integrator of MES Systems, preferably in a specialty chemical manufacturing environment
Minimum 5 years of project management experience required
Experience developing /configuring Electronic Batch Records (EBR)
Experience in implementing MES solutions such as Werum (PAS|X), Rockwell (Pharmasuite / PMX), Siemens (XFP, Camstar), or Wonderware MES, as well as having experience in integrating these systems with ERP and/or control equipment
Knowledge of GMP guidelines is a must
Strong knowledge of supply chain management and/or manufacturing processes, having the ability to implement strategies to improve the efficiency of the process
Experience in the adoption and application of ISA-95 and connecting enterprise IT systems to shop-floor systems
Experience in database design, development, and support
Experience with IoT cloud-based solutions, architectures, and deployment
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in diverse, multi-disciplined work groups
Experience and/or substantial understanding of process control principles and common system vendors’ available products
Skills in S88/S95 batch, historian technology, databases, and reporting systems
Demonstrated expertise and competence in integrated recipe design in MES systems

Preferred qualifications:
Relational database experience is a plus (Microsoft SQL preferred)
NuGenesis LMS experience is a plus
Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
Strong knowledge of and/or experience with MRP/ERP systems (SAP preferred)
Some knowledge of and/or experience with network infrastructure and IoT connectivity
