JOB DESCRIPTION: OPTHALMIC TECHNICIAN- CORNEA AND CATARACT EXPERIENCE
JOB SUMMARY
Assist Physician with patient examination and treatment, responsible for patient histories, routine diagnostic procedures, as well as some clerical duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Facilitate patient care
Ø Preliminary work-up: history, chief complaint, visual acuity, eye pressure, pupil reactions, scope of vision, color vision and muscle movement.
Ø Manual refractions.
Ø Tonometry (Applanation, Tonopen).
Ø Diagnostic testing: Biometry, Topography, OCT, Visual Fields, Fundus Photos.
Ø Take dictation and document exam findings while physician is examining patient.
Ø Administer drops under physician supervision.
Ø Write out necessary prescriptions.
Ø Take and explain tests, procedures, treatments, and diagnoses to patients.
Ø Maintain and stock all exam rooms.
Ø Clean and maintain all instruments.
Ø Assist physician in minor office surgery.
Ø Return and answer patient phone calls as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ø Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an ophthalmic practice. Experience in cornea and cataract clinics preferred.
Ø Minimum of two (2) years’ experience performing ophthalmic procedures and diagnostic testing.
Ø Experience in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
Ø Reliability and dependability.
Ø Strong organizational skills.
Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ø Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office.
Ø Flexibility (may require some early mornings and evenings)
