Purpose of Position
THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL ALL POSITIONS HAVE BEEN FILLED.
Why does the job exist?
The Public Art Project Coordinator handles coordination and implementation of direct purchase and site-specific commission projects in the State of New Mexico's Art in Public Places (AIPP) Program as well as various other community-oriented permanent and temporary public art projects administered through the AIPP Program. The AIPP Project Coordinator regularly interacts with internal and external clients and must possess strong communication and project management skills. Since its inception over 30 years ago, the Art in Public Places Program has placed approximately 3,000 works of art spread across all of New Mexico's 33 counties. The AIPP goal is to reflect the diversity of the arts in New Mexico, the Southwest and the nation while building a
dynamic public art collection for the citizens of and visitors to the State of New Mexico.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced project/program coordinator who has considerable knowledge about contemporary art, familiar with the theory, principles, practices and procedures of art programs and is passionate about improving the quality of life in the state of New Mexico by promoting diverse artistic and cultural innovation.

The ideal candidate for this position will have also demonstrated a track record of success in the following areas:
  • Ability to develop, implement and manage projects at various stages of development;
  • Knowledge of practices and techniques of administrative analysis and fiscal management;
  • Ability to work well independently and with team members;
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and related issues;
  • Ability to establish exceptional organizational skills, multi-task, prioritize work and meet critical deadlines; and the
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
Minimum Qualification
Associates Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds may be required. Periodic travel throughout NM to facilitate projects using state vehicle with occasional overnight stays which may include evening and/or weekend hours.
