POSITION: Clerk Typist(Census Clerk), Office of Student Services, Central OfficeGENERAL DUTIES: To assist in the smooth and efficient operation of the student services office so that regulatory requirements are met in a concise and efficient way.REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services or designee.QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Graduation from high school or high school equivalency, including or supplemented by secretarial and/or business training.2.Ability to maintain confidential student and computerized records as required.3.Ability to efficiently use computerized software, to include word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail and Internet, etc., and student information systems and RIDE Special Education on-line Census.*4.Must be detail oriented, able to work independently, and possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.5.Ability to maintain professionalism at all times and communicate well with administrators, staff, parents, and outside agencies.6.Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, previous experience, testing*, and the interview process.RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Performs the usual office routines and practices associated with a busy yet productive office, including frequent contact with staff, students, parents and outside agencies.2.Understands and maintains the highest level of confidentiality in all aspects of this position.3.Assists in the preparation of reports, letters, notices and other miscellaneous items as assigned by the Director of Student Services and/or designee.4.Coordinates with the school bus provider to arrange busing for Special Education students during the school year and Extended School Year. Where possible, solves routine Special Ed transportation problems. 5.Handles all student records, including filing, copying, faxing, and mailing, as well as all other clerical duties currently needed in the Student Services Office.6.Processes a large volume of incoming correspondence ensuring that copies of pertinent student records are forwarded to school teams.7.Utilizes computer applications software in the performance of daily tasks.8.Performs all other such clerical duties as the Director of Special Education and/or designee may deem appropriate.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTSWalking, Standing, Stooping, Kneeling, Sitting, Reaching, Lifting (10 pound minimum), Carrying, Fingering/Keyboarding, Talking, Hearing, SeeingTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTFull-time, twelve-months; Salary and benefits in accordance with Support Staff contract; Pay Grade 8, 35 hours per week; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with 1 hour non-paid lunch break.
