Responsibilities
The Community Affairs & Grassroots Sr. Advisor will create a sustainable competitive advantage for the Southwest Airlines brand by effectively reaching and influencing, select audiences with carefully-crafted omni-channel messaging that proactively manages the marketplace dialogue while positively shaping attitudes, perceptions, brand reputation and Customer actions.

WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:
Responsible for building key relationships interisland; Works cross functionally across the enterprise and with Communication and Commercial Leadership Team to ensure effective execution of the key priorities while driving alignment on the vision and objectives of the HI Marketing and Communications plans
Builds positive strategic relationships with established key community influencers, and can recommend the right opportunities as needed
Consults Marketing and Communications on all Customer-facing brand materials to ensure positive outcomes to meet objectives
The local HI Manager provides consultation of the Integrated HI Marketing plan, responsible for driving the development of the Marketing, Communications, and Governmental Relations activities interisland
Research mainland, Hawaiian, and international news and initiatives and collaborate with Communication to position Southwest Airlines within the identified communities appropriately with respect to each island, country.
Represent Governmental Affairs at meetings with state and local elected/appointed officials on matters involving airlines and the airport, including the Office of the Governor and the Hawaii Department of Transportation
Raise Southwest’s profile among state and local elected/appointed officials
Report information to Governmental Affairs Leaders about outreach with elected/appointed officials and key influencers and relay information, as necessary or directed, between Governmental Affairs and elected/appointed officials and key influencers
Research and compose plan for immediate and long-term brand awareness with specified community based groups both domestically and internationally.
Guide and support consulting teams/agencies as needed.
Develop system for effective stakeholder mapping and craft long-term and short-term plans for Hawaiian Community Outreach with external stakeholders in specified markets.
Build network of Hawaiian community stakeholders to grow the Southwest brand among trade, civic, philanthropic, advocacy, and resource organizations.
Engage socially and facilitate opportunities to interact with key policy-makers, officials, thought-leaders, and community partners to build long-term mutually beneficial relationships. Hawaiian sectors may include: tourism, travel, business activities.
Support grassroots advocacy initiatives among key internal and external stakeholders to affect favorable outcomes for the Company.
Work closely with the members of the Governmental Affairs, General Counsel, Marketing, Business Development, Communications, Ground Operations, Corporate Sales and other teams to identify opportunities to coordinate outreach with the intent to achieve collective strategic goals.
Conduct internal and external briefings with Employees, Customers, or Consultants needed for Hawaiian Customer communication
Work directly with peers, corporate officers, the CEO, and board of directors to advise and counsel on local business and social issues.
Provide counsel and analyses to key stakeholders on issues that arise in assigned cities. Develop a strategic approach to positively influence outcomes.
Identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with the leadership team to frame options/solutions, and subsequently define and execute appropriate strategies to support the best outcome.
Serve as an intermediary and subject matter expert to address issues, ranging from routine to contentious. Act as corporate representative to mitigate risk and solve complex issues, demonstrating integrity in addressing the issue.
Demonstrate cultural competency to guide the business in the global Southwest Airlines network.
Responsible for successful stakeholder management including initiatives such as City Teams, Local Executive Engagement, and ad hoc Committee/project work as needed to impact target market outcomes.
Represent Southwest Airlines on the Islands as a key liaison in the event of a crisis.
Monitor and track results to gauge success and identify opportunities.
Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.
Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in public affairs, community affairs, nonprofit service, or related field is required. Advanced degree a plus.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 10 years of community/public affairs experience required.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/KNOWLEDGE/WORK STYLE:
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience leading and guiding consultants and agencies.
Effective written and oral communication skills- ability to grasp complex legislation and translate ideas or intended outcomes to others; create content for various communication platforms, update progress of important initiatives to key stakeholders.
Prior involvement in or knowledge of Mainland, Hawaii, and international civic affairs or activities.
Personal credibility and ability to network effectively, working with people at all levels of influence.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to collaborate with a team, works independently, organize and manage multiple competing priorities, and think and act strategically.
Ability to focus on outcomes/ results; set measurable goals and objectives; and meet deadlines.
Ability to speak persuasively before groups.
Significant time is spent building and maintaining relationships. The role requires a non-traditional schedule – extended days, a significant number of weekend and evening commitments at meetings and events, travel and an expectation that the individual is accessible whenever they are needed.
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines.
