FRONT END MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Administrative:
- Greet patients, completion of registration forms, and provide instructions
- Filing and maintaining medical and financial records
- Obtain and manage insurance authorizations
- Preparing and typing correspondence
- Processing, coding, and completing insurance claim forms
- Purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment
- Performing computer skills in patient billing, transcription, scheduling,
insurance claims, accounts receivable, and data base entry
- Performing accounting, billing, and banking procedures
- Arranging for hospital admissions and outside referrals for the physician
- Electronically sending and Calling prescriptions to the pharmacy for the physician
- Communication skills using appropriate medical terminology
- Answering phones and scheduling appointments
- Following appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct
Clinical:
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit, reviewing current medications
- Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary
- Assist the physician during the examination
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
- Dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical instruments
- Draw blood - if employee holds current valid phlebotomy certificate
- Perform electrocardiograms
- Remove sutures and change dressings
- Arrange examining room instruments and equipment
- Keep waiting and examining rooms neat and clean
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications
Working knowledge of medications and laboratory data.• Serves and protects the medical practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements
- Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols
- Maintain work area, exam rooms, supplies, medications and immunizations
- Perform basic triage per specific office protocol procedures
- Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times
- Adhere to employer work practice policies
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and patients
- Effectively cope with typical job stress
- Document work processes as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
