Overview The Staff Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for all month end close related activities including recording and reconciling of (but not limited to) accruals, prepaids, rent, payroll & benefits and cash activities of multiple entities within a complex accounting system. The Staff Accountant must have a solid understanding of GAAP accounting, possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and be able to learn quickly.

  • Full responsibility for the preparation of General Ledger journal entries for the month-end close and to close the books in a timely manner;
  • Understand, analyze and complete balance sheet reconciliations, including explaining and reclassifying variances
  • Assist auditors by providing supporting documentation and/or information on internal process that is required for audit;
  • Assist in process improvements, including documenting processes and procedures and identifying and developing internal controls;
  • Ensure that accounting records and reports are in compliance with accepted policies and procedures and government regulations;
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with ad hoc duties and special projects
  • Payroll Activities:
    • Complete payroll interface to record salaries and wages for each pay cycle for all business units, and ensure completeness and accuracy of data;
    • Prepare month-end journal entries for vacation and bonus accruals, wage garnishments, payroll tax reporting, and other claims and deductions;
    • Reconcile payroll and benefits accounts;
    • Record monthly payroll and commission accruals.
    • Understand, document, and propose improvements to current payroll and benefits process;
  • Cash activities:
    • Update daily cash position for all bank accounts and prepare journal entries to post cash activities
    • Reconcile all cash and cash-related accounts and clear any differences in a timely manner
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 2 - 4 years of related experience (GL/month end close, payroll accounting preferred);
  • Good knowledge of US GAAP and willingness to research and resolve accounting applications;
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to research and solve problems and reconcile difficult accounts;
  • Highly detail oriented and organized in work;
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management to maximize performance
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including the creation and manipulation of Pivot tables, V-/H-LOOKUP, and IF-THEN formula
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

  • Oracle experience is preferred
