The City of Naperville's Water and Wastewater Utility is one of the state's largest combined utility systems, operating both a water distribution system and a sanitary district with wastewater treatment.
The City seeks a talented individual possessing an advanced electro-mechanical skill set for the position of Utility Technician III (Wastewater Maintenance). You will perform a wide variety of skilled work in the maintenance, rehabilitation, repair and replacement of complex mechanical and electromechanical pumps and related machinery and equipment for Naperville's municipal wastewater facility. This job is a union-represented position (IBEW Local 196).
Reporting to the Maintenance Section Supervisor, you will install, maintain and repair equipment (including pumps, motors, gear boxes, bearings, check valves, motor control units, and electrical indicating and recording equipment); inspect electrical and mechanical equipment for malfunctions and needed repairs; monitor the SCADA system; perform metal fabrication (cutting, drilling and milling); lubricate, adjust, and test equipment; install bearings, gears, shafts, seals, packing and other mechanical hardware; and use welding equipment to heat, cut, braze or weld.
As the Utility Technician, you will adhere, at all times, to proper safety-related policies and practices. You will independently perform plumbing and pipefitting tasks; assist more senior personnel in performing limited electrical installations or modifications; install and set up new equipment (including fuses, overloads, wire, light fixtures, sensors, switches and other electrical devices); perform equipment rigging & alignment; and document completed work orders and preventative maintenance schedule sheets.
The Utility Technician may also engage in semi-skilled maintenance on buildings, structures and grounds including heating and air conditioning systems, painting, carpentry, and snow removal as required. He/she performs any laboring, custodial or operations-oriented tasks that may be assigned.
Bare minimum requirements include a high school diploma (or equivalent), plus two years of mechanical and/or electromechanical maintenance and repair experience or training. A good driving record is required.
Highly-preferred candidates will possess proven electrical & mechanical skills specifically with pumps and/or wastewater equipment, possess experience operating/maintaining a wastewater treatment facility, possess a technical or maintenance-related degree, and/or be certified as an Illinois EPA Class 4 Wastewater Operator.
