Job Overview:
Performs and/or leads others in performing engineering analysis, design, plan, review, and construction administration for both large and small projects in a capacity focused in the Mechanical Engineering discipline, with Plumbing Engineering and HVAC experience as a plus. Position requires the application of advanced engineering concepts, principles, practices, and methods sufficient to perform a broad range of engineering activities in a variety of work environments. Guidance is limited, requiring initiative and resourcefulness in researching precedents, trends, and patterns to select or develop new methods and techniques. Resolves new and unusual problems and recommends solutions to unique circumstances and situations. Completed work is reviewed periodically for effectiveness in meeting requirements or specified results. Work is reviewed for technical soundness, appropriateness, and compliance with standard engineering practices. Regular contact with individuals in internal and external leadership positions is required to influence and motivate others to achieve project objectives. Furthermore, the ability to manage and oversee projects as the sole point of contact for the full Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design is essential for this position.
Duties:
Design Oversight
· Performs engineering calculations and estimates.
· Collects, organizes, and interprets a variety of project related information to incorporate into new project design.
· Identifies, analyzes, and recommends engineering alternatives.
· Conducts preliminary engineering studies, including gathering pertinent data, analyzing alternatives, and performing related calculations.
· Performs original design work, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
· Conducts field observations of work done by contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
· Performs statistical analysis to ensure compliance within established specifications.
· Identifies the problem or opportunity through the collection and analysis of data.
· Interprets and condenses field notes to prepare and/or oversee the preparation of plans and drawings.
· Maintains accurate filing and records system for projects from initiation to project close out.
· Operates various computer aided engineering design analysis programs and tools.
· Understands, applies, and maintains compliance with regulatory and industry standards and requirements.
Project Planning
· Serves as project manager on moderately complex projects.
· Assigns projects, establish schedule, monitor performance of team, and provide guidance, leadership, and ensure project completion within timelines.
· Plans, schedules and leads all phases of moderately complex projects.
· Acts as liaison with clients and contractors to ensure customer satisfaction and other related agencies. Coordinates and cooperates with other agencies, departments, and private utilities involved in or affected by project(s).
· Establishes and ensures completion of quality assurance measures by developing, monitoring, analyzing reports, and providing revisions to policies and procedures.
· Prepares and interprets engineering plans and specifications and communicates technical requirements to contractors.
Business Development
· Supports marketing the firm’s services, estimating, acquiring, and signing contracts.
· Given strategic plan updates, responsible for refining pursuit strategies by market segment as well as developing approach to individual project pursuits.
· Provide leadership in planning, directing, and implementing an aggressive marketing/business plan to leverage existing relationships and develop new relationships to obtain additional work.
· Cross selling – introduce additional mechanical, electrical and plumbing technical services to existing clients and support other technical departments in providing their services to existing clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year university plus a minimum of six (6) years engineering work experience; eight (8) to ten (10)+ years of engineering work experience is desired.
- Or, Master's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university plus at least five (5) years of engineering work experience; seven (7) to nine (9)+ years of engineering work experience is desired for a candidate with a Master’s degree.
- Professional Engineer license.
- May be required to attain project manager certification.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
- Provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training and guidance, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal to others.
- Attention to detail.
- Is able to clearly and effectively communicate with corporate managers, end users and engineers from other departments.
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, this position is expected to arrive no later than 8 a.m. and leave after approximately 8 hours of time working. Depending on task needs, overtime may be needed.
