Town of Needham Health and Human Services Aging Services Division - Needham, MA

The Town of Needham seeks an energetic and engaged individual with a strong background in senior services programming and management for the full-time position of Assistant Director for the Aging Services Division. Under the direction of the Director of Aging Services, the Assistant Director will perform a range of functions designed to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of programs and services to the Town’s senior population.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Collaborates with Director to identify community needs and develop and monitor overall goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that will enhance the function of the Aging Services Division
  • In collaboration with the Director, prepares grant proposals on the state and federal level
  • Evaluates program reports and Annual Report, maintains necessary data regarding participation levels, financial information and volunteer information
  • Promotes the Aging Services Division and its programs through social media, written materials, community presentations, and personal contacts
  • Works with community groups to identify programs/service needs, coordinates programs, services/events relating to Center population
  • Oversees daily operations of programming, transportation, and volunteers in collaboration with related staff
  • Oversees routine financial operations in collaboration with the Director, monitors the budgets and prepares budget-related reports
  • Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of senior program planning and administration
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Gerontology or a related field
  • Professional experience as a supervisor or manager
  • Three (3) or more years of direct work experience in an elder service environment (Part-time and volunteer experience will be considered to fulfill a portion of that requirement)
  • Proficiency in office software products including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations
  • Availability to occasionally serve on-call to respond to emergency situations and to periodically work outside of normal business hours to support the Town’s programs and services
  • Possession of a valid state-issued driver’s license
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • ServeSafe Allergen Certification
  • Marketing/Public Relations experience
  • Master’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Gerontology or a related field
  • Professional experience in government, non-profit organizations, operations and/or facility management
