Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the MT/MLT provides technical support by performing analyses, tests, experiments and procedures that assist in the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases. The MT/MLT operates, maintains, and calibrates the equipment used to ensure it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results. MT's/MLT's are exposed to infectious clinical specimens on a regular basis, so adherence to sterilization and infection control procedures is required.
Medical Technologists - Must have a Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university.
Medical Lab Technicians - Must have an Associate's degree in medical technology, chemistry, physical or biological sciences.
ASCP Certified or equivalent required.
A minimum of 1 year experience in a hospital setting.
Knowledge of hospital laboratory practices, including infection control requirements, chemical and biological hazards.
Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies and standards.
