Nursery Manager – Key West, FL
The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden
Since 1936, The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden has showcased flora native to The Florida Keys, Cuba, and the Caribbean. We emphasize cultivation of threatened and endangered species of the Florida Keys and encourage the study of this collection and promote the benefits of native vegetation worldwide. The Garden provides educational programs for all age groups and various levels of interest geared to Keys residents, tourists, plant experts and others.
Nursery Manager
The ideal candidate for this position will be knowledgeable about native plants, as well as passionate about conservation and the preservation of the flora native to the Florida Keys. The Nursery Manager is integral in our outreach to the public on the importance of using natives in our landscapes.
Primary Duties
- Manage Operations
- Monitor and report on Nursery Facility and Operations
- Supervise Nursery staff and volunteers
- Maintain documentation of inventory and propagation data
- Train staff and volunteers and educate the public
- Manage monthly Plant Sales
- Operation of nursery equipment, irrigation and point-of-sale systems
- Oversee communication and outreach
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Horticulture or experience with enhanced training in the horticulture field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds and able to carry 15-20 pounds through the length of the nursery
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
