The Area Manager (AM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values in order to develop high performing teams that consistently deliver top-line sales growth. This transitional position provides multiunit developmental experience for leaders who demonstrate potential to do more. As an experienced general manager (GM), the AM leads a team of 2-3 stores, on average, in addition to their own store. This leader drives their business through a focus on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (standard operating procedures). This position requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to proactively collaborate, lead, and influence from a distance.

Meet or exceed goals related to sales, profitability, and operational excellence across multiple units.
Build the Ulta Beauty brand through exceptional service and the guest loyalty program.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners and leadership to assess and grow the business.
Review and interpret financial and/or operational reports regularly; identify under performing metrics within each store and create an action plan.

Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
Train, coach, and develop direct reports using company tools (e.g., training and succession planning).

Engage and influence direct reports to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Cultivate relationships with cross-functional business partners in order to create a support system to collaboratively assess and support stores, as well as provide professional development.

Be knowledgeable of, and ensure adherence to Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
Be knowledgeable of, and ensure adherence to all merchandising and visual updates.
Provide directional leadership to communicate expectations and support the execution of all store tasks.
Lead change and innovation by helping the team through the change-curve.


Bachelor’s degree is preferred

Fast-paced, retail management experience
Financial management: success with driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expense
Retail management: proven ability with monitoring inventory levels, achieving operational excellence, driving a service culture, and executing merchandising directives
Leadership management: solid experience with attracting, developing, and motivating top talent, swiftly adapting to change, and leading others through the change-curve, developing collaborative relationships with others, and leading and influencing from a distance

Proficient with basic technology (e.g., Microsoft Office programs and Apple devices)
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple projects with moving parts
Ability to react under pressure, apply good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable

Ability to travel up to 25%, including overnight stays; valid identification
Ability to work a flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Ability to attend business meetings and conferences
