Title: Behavior Analyst
Program/Dept: Vanguard
Reports to: Director of Clinical Services
Position Type: 10 Month, Full-Time
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:45AM to 3:30PM
FLSA Status: Exempt
Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, School Psychology, Human Development or another related field required.
2. Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential required.
3. Minimum two years’ experience providing direct services to students on the autistic spectrum and/or with emotional disorders.
4. Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), evidence-based behavioral interventions, and Positive Behavior Support
5. Ability to engage intellectually and physically with students in need of crisis intervention.
6. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (administrators, colleagues, students, parents, and others).
7. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
8. Ability to use computers and perform clerical skills at a proficient level.
General Duties and Responsibilities
The Behavior Analyst at The Vanguard School is responsible for the implementation of skill acquisition and behavior support strategies aligned with current best practices from the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). She or he is a positive role model for students and works to teach and support student acquisition of adaptive behaviors and alternative responses to dysfunctional behaviors. She or he supports staff to carry out the behavioral goals set in each student’s Individual Education Plan and Positive Behavior Support Plan, is responsible for maintaining data on these goals, and fosters a classroom ecology of positive behavior. She or he provides supervision to Behavior Support Specialists as assigned.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Collect, monitor, analyze, and graph behavioral data using a variety of established techniques.
2. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and write Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs) for individual students.
3. Maintain documentation of student behaviors and use this data to evaluate program and intervention effectiveness.
4. Implement individual and classroom-wide strategies, interventions, etc. to increase adaptive behaviors and functionally equivalent alternative responses to maladaptive behavior.
5. Coach, model, educate, consult, and provide corrective feedback to teachers and other educational staff in order to support behavioral treatment plan integrity.
6. Serve as a role model and reference person to students in dealing with academic, personal, social and vocational problems.
7. Support teachers by implementing students’ behavior plans as written, with fidelity.
8. Schedule time in classrooms for direct work with students.
9. Provide crisis intervention and other assistance needed to maintain safety and a positive learning environment.
10. Prepare reports documenting students’ behaviors.
11. Develop individual (preference assessments) and school wide incentives to encourage students to achieve behavioral goals.
12. Actively participate and support the school-wide Positive Behavior Support Program.
13. Support and confer with parent training, as a part of a team, to facilitate the use of appropriate supportive strategies within home and community settings.
14. Demonstrate competency in each of the VFES core values: Communication and Listening, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Ethics, Professionalism, and Teamwork.
15. Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members.
16. Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with administrators, colleagues, parents, students, and others at all times.
17. Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service activities, and other meetings as required.
18. Maintain proper credentials for assignment and remain educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state/national standards through continued professional study and attending workshops and conferences.
19. Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
