Engineering Work:
- Forming a strong understanding of process specifics, such as reaction mechanisms, chemical kinetics, filtration properties, etc.

Working with vendors, consultants, and industry experts to identify process equipment and specifications and verify proper installation/operation for a variety of process equipment, such as pumps, instrumentation, filtration systems, etc.

Authoring original documents such as batch cards, operating procedures, PFDs, and P&IDs, and improve upon pre-existing versions while accounting for non-steady-state operation (ie relief cases, upset and start-up/shut-down conditions)
- Generating heat and mass balances for relevant unit operations

Communicating results to other departments (Finance, R&D, etc.) to provide key targets or projections
Other Duties:

Communicating and collaborating with other engineering disciplines, synthetic and analytical chemists, and members of the Management team

Incorporating pilot plant and research findings into process flow and equipment designs

Have to Have it:

B.S. in Chemical Engineering or related field
-
5-10 years relevant industrial experience

Ability to create a mass and energy balance on a defined system

Ability to apply engineering fundamentals such as heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and process design

Ability to document and communicate technical results clearly at an appropriate level of detail
-
Experience with reading and creating PFDs / P&IDs
Bonus:

M.S. in Chemical Engineering or related field

10+ years relevant industrial experience

Experience with ion exchange resins, filtration operations, distillations, or crystallization

Ability to scale-up unit operations by modelling and applying bench-scale experimental data
- Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen, CHEMCAD, etc.)

Proficiency with Python programming language

This position is a Level 3 at Origin Materials. The pay range for this position level at Origin Materials is $78,200 - $131,000. This range is not necessarily a guarantee of actual compensation that may be earned nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee, which is always dependent on relevant experience, education and other factors
