PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION
Immediate need for an experienced paralegal with particular focus on clinical research to support Abbott’s global clinical research divisions. The senior paralegal will provide legal review of research-related contracts and issues in direct support of clinical research teams.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
The Senior Paralegal is an intermediate individual contributor position with potential for management opportunity in Abbott’s Legal Division.
The Senior Paralegal:
Drafts, reviews, and negotiates a variety of research-related contracts, including clinical research, services, consultants, confidentiality and other standard contracts;
Reviews and responds to proposed contract revisions from clinical research and service providers and negotiates directly with third parties;
Drafts and maintains research-related contract templates for utilization by Abbott’s global research divisions;
Interacts with various levels of management and a variety of functional areas within the company;
Coordinates solutions with clients and local attorneys in other countries;
Assists in development and presentation of training for global client groups;
Performs independent analysis of legal issues and proposes solutions to legal counsel;
Stays abreast of legal and regulatory developments that impact areas of client concern;
Represents Abbott externally to research partners, service providers, and outside legal counsel;
Coaches and directs assigned support staff in their responsibilities. Serves as a role model for other paralegals;
Typically reports to Paralegal Supervisor or Senior Counsel;
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal certification or equivalent experience.
3+ years of contract negotiation experience.
Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Working knowledge of general legal concepts, terminology and principles related to contracts.
Attention to detail, good judgment, and solid organization skills.
Corporate law department experience.
