The BLS Adjunct Faculty work together to help support the BLS Coordinator during BLS classes. These instructors will assist in the instruction of BLS skills and simulation during the EMT program, and various BLS continuing education. Along with skills instruction, they will help in the initial equipment set-up and equipment breakdown during BLS classes, helping to maintain the integrity of the BLS equipment, task trainers, and simulators. If qualified, and approved, the BLS Adjunct Faculty will also deliver didactic education for BLS course in the form of lecture, case studies, and current educational delivery methods. The BLS Adjunct Faculty will also complete other assignments during BLS classes as directed by the BLS Coordinator or their designee.

DUTIES OF THE BLS Adjunct Faculty:

  • Demonstrate psychomotor skills as appropriate in the EMT scope of practice in accordance within the National EMS Educational Standards.
  • Demonstrate psychomotor skills in large and small groups.
  • Provide correction and feedback to students during skills practice.
  • Objectively evaluate students utilizing the institutionally adopted tools.
  • Participate in BLS scenarios or simulations to help emphasize student critical thinking.
  • Utilize pre-established scenarios to coach actors or stage simulation equipment.
  • Debrief scenarios and simulations providing positive feedback and areas in need of improvement.
  • Objectively evaluate students utilizing the institutionally adopted tools.
  • Arrive prior to class start time, at times dictated by the BLS Coordinator or their designee, in order to help set-up equipment for skill stations or scenarios.
  • Clean and store equipment as appropriate after the class session is completed.
  • Provide monthly availability to the BLS Coordinator by the 20th day prior to each month.
  • Attend any BLS Instructor meetings scheduled throughout the year.
  • Deliver didactic education to BLS students through lecture, case studies, and other teaching methods.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the BLS Coordinator or Director of Education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience or approval from the Director of Education.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience at the BLS level or approval from the Director of Education.
  • Physical ability to perform all of the job functions of our organization’s EMTs.
  • Physical ability to perform all didactic and psychomotor components of the BLS course offerings.
  • Current credential at the BLS level or higher to practice in Pennsylvania.
  • Current BLS CPR certification by a PA Department of Health Approved entity.
  • Knowledgeable of current BLS prehospital practice.
