Duties: Support colonia community members with education of community services and self-advocacy with governmental entities and public institutions. Create community member assessment process. Create and maintain communication network for disseminating information. Establish and maintain relationships with community members and organizations in community. Engage in door to door canvassing, phone banking and member texting of colonia community members. Plan and host two health fairs a year in different colonia communities. Track and report community contacts, weekly and monthly. Assist with planning for and participate in community organizing, policy advocacy, and other quality-of-life workshops in rural areas. Attend community events and meetings hosted by partner organizations or community members. Responsible for learning about and participating in community-lead grassroots initiatives. Be an Empowerment Congress ambassador. Promote community awareness of the EC, SUCCESS! Partnership and CAASNM’s mission, services and programs. Position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing policy when mandated.
Skills/Abilities: Bilingual English/Spanish required; self-motivating, with general supervision by the EC Director; Ability to work with people from all cultural and economic backgrounds of all ages in a friendly and congenial manner; strong interpersonal skills with community; familiarity with community organizing in rural, low-income, at-risk communities; Knowledge of community outreach and education, direct service programs with strong written, oral, organizational and data entry skills; small administrative tasks as needed; Knowledge of Microsoft Office, digital or online organizing tools.
