TEAM & POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Security Engineer builds, operates and maintains IT security infrastructure for the organization. This technical position involves identifying threats and vulnerabilities in the company’s IT systems and software architecture and preparing for potential threats that could disrupt the company’s operations. He / She will also test security systems to monitor and improve performance. The Security Engineer will advise management on policies and procedures related to the IT industry. The role requires in-depth expertise in specific hard skills such as cybersecurity, networking and protocols.
The Security Engineer is expected to be the first line of defense against malicious actors in the IT industry. He / she will screen the company’s critical IT infrastructure for weaknesses and create robust countermeasures to prevent future incidents. The Security Engineer will also train employees on security best practices and advice management on investments to safeguard the company’s computer and network systems. Security Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to:
YOU WILL OWN & COLLABORATE ON:
Develop, execute and track the performance of security measures to protect information and network infrastructure and computer systems
Design computer security strategy and engineer comprehensive cybersecurity architecture
Design, develop, deploy, and maintaining data loss prevention and data protection solutions
Identify, define and document system security requirements and recommend solutions to management
Configure, troubleshoot and maintain security infrastructure software and hardware
Install / configure software that monitors systems and networks for security breaches and intrusions
Maintain and support Sumo Logic SIEM
Monitor systems for irregular behavior and set up preventive measures
Contribute to the planning, development, implementation and updating of company's information security strategy
Drive automation efforts to continuously monitor and maintain security posture of operating systems
Educate and train staff on information system security best practices
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE YOU WILL NEED:
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field
Five or more years' work experience as a System Security Engineer or related position
Industry standard cyber security/cloud security certifications, CISSP / SSCP preferred.
Proven experience developing, operating and maintaining security systems
Extensive knowledge of operating system and database security
Proficiency in networking technologies, network security and network monitoring solutions
Knowledge of security systems including anti-virus applications, content filtering, firewalls, authentication systems and intrusion detection and notification systems
In-depth knowledge of security protocols and principles
Knowledge of security principles and best practices in cloud substrates (AWS and Azure)
In depth understanding of cloud cybersecurity standards and frameworks
Strong scripting skills using PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar
Working knowledge of Agile/DevSecOps methodologies with strong organizational and project management skills
Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems
Possession of excellent presentation, strong communication and interpersonal skills
