Farm Press Content Director

Requires residence within driving distance of Clarksdale, MS; Oxford, MS; Memphis,TN; or Greenville, NC.

Farm Press is seeking a new Editor to cover the vibrant varied agriculture industry across the Sunbelt. The ideal candidate will have a passion for agriculture and sharing information with producers. This person will be home-based but work closely with the Farm Press senior content and will be part of an extensive editorial team that covers the Sunbelt states.

Key responsibilities for this position include planning and editing two Farm Press regional publications (Southwest Farm Press and Western Farm Press), covering major industry events and writing about successful farmers who are making a difference in the industry. The Farm Press reader is a savvy producer aiming to keep improving his or her operation.

This position requires high-level writing and editing skills (please provide at least three samples of your most recent work), solid photography skills (please provide at least three samples), and an understanding of the role of social media and digital publishing in engaging the reader. This brand has a loyal social media following that engages on a regular basis.

Responsibilities include:
Edit content for two regional Farm Press publications.
Create content for use in daily e-newsletters (which is posted online) and for print and special issues.
Plan print issues, developing story ideas and working with state and regional experts to cover the most important topics in the region.
Work with content and art production teams in Clarksdale, Miss., to develop both website and print products.
Collaborate with other Farm Press/ Farm Progress editors as needed to cover key topics for the region.

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Ag Communications, English or related discipline from a four-year college or university.
Minimum of 5-7 years of business writing and editorial experience required, preferably within the agricultural or natural resources industry.
Must be a proficient photographer, able to photograph farmers and agricultural conditions.
Must be proficient in MS Office, Outlook, PhotoShop and In- Design.
Must possess people management skills and experience.
Must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to meet demanding deadlines.
