The George Mason University, Department of Environmental Science and Policy in the College of Science is seeking a part-time Administrative Office Assistant. This position reports to the Chair of the department and serves a team of faculty, classified staff, undergraduate and graduate students. General office administrative duties will include receiving supplies, submitting and managing departmental space management (25 Live), facilities work orders, key control requests. Provide high-quality general administrative support to department Chair, faculty and staff including taking minutes at faculty meetings, keep a calendar for conference room reservations, support special events, order parking passes, and request vans for class field trips. Please note that this is a part-time position and the work schedule will not exceed an average of 29 hours per week.
Please note that individuals currently enrolled as students at Mason are not eligible to be granted access to certain required administrative systems and, therefore, are not eligible to be considered for this position.
Intermediate to expert skill levels in MS Office Suite applications (e. g. proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook.);
An aptitude for learning specialized software such as Banner and 25 Live;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Sophisticated written and interpersonal communication skills;
Polished and professional presence to work effectively with external constituents;
Ability to thrive in a team-dependent and collaborative work environment while also being able to independently work on projects;
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; and
Ability to maintain confidential documentation; and strong written and verbal communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have:
Significant experience working in a professional environment;
Experience working in an academic unit within a higher education environment; and
A willingness to learn and integrate to a fast-pace dynamic group of faculty and staff.
