The Process Control & Data Engineer is responsible for the Technical Center process control and process data management activities in support to the technology leads on various pilot to demonstration projects. He also will assure the day to day operational activities related with the maintainability of the pilot units control system(s) and related integration with the Tech Center laboratories and other data gathering/reporting structures.
The Process Control & Data Engineer is also responsible for the Remote Operation Monitoring support of the SGCE licensed plants in direct report to the Technology Engineer/Manager leading the job. Under this responsibility he might be asked to integrate with Technology team for short to medium term assignments, at the SGCE licensed plants. Typical assignment activities would be associated with commissioning and start-up, plant troubleshooting/optimization as well as during plant turnarounds.
It is expected that within the role and with adequate coaching and training, the Process Control & Data Engineer become knowledgeable with the Technology and capable of performing also conceptual/design work related with new licensed projects and acting as a backup resource for process technology/technology lead activities.
Provide process control systems engineering support: specifications, design, development, and testing of the partial and/or integrated control and safety systems
Long-term planning and support of the control systems under his care with respect to programming, preventive maintenance and migration. Emphasis placed on safety. Tasks will include: implementing the control logic, HMI, database, documentation of these changes and direct technology lead/operator support
Maintain and improve Process Data Systems
Use a broad range of automation tools such as advanced regulatory control, model predictive control, abnormal situation management, adaptive tuning, optimal control, robust control, adaptive control, or soft sensors, and data historians to improve existing processes
Work closely with technology leads and operators to define appropriate controls applications
Lead automation projects
Develop key performance indicators, track key process parameters and overall process performance
Train and facilitate the transfer of new process control technologies
Document process control findings and develop technical reports
Get up to date with cutting edge controls technology
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
3-5 years in a directly related process controls position
Ideal candidates will have a hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC). Basic knowledge of PRoVOX, DeltaV, PLC configuration. Emphasis will be placed on skills related to Siemens PCS7 and Yokogawa control systems, OSI PI Server management and configuration
Applicable knowledge of instrumentation; including valves and transmitters and analytical instrumentation
Proficiency and experience with concepts related to level, temperature, pressure and flow measurement, and composition analysis
Knowledge of VMS and virtualization environments
SQL server management
SQL queries and reporting
Proficiency and understanding of computer networking and architecture
Visual Basic for Applications
Basic Windows System Management and computer network configuration
Familiarity with basic and advanced process control concepts
Knowledge of process safety systems
Candidates should also possess demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders
Proven ability to lead projects and meet deadlines.
Understanding of the reliability, documentation and Management of Change requirements imposed by implementing projects
Demonstrated ability to apply Continuous Improvement Tools
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
