Millennia Commercial Group, Ltd. is currently seeking an experienced Director of Accounting for its Commercial Property Accounting Department based at its corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. This exciting and unique opportunity will provide the selected person the desirable experience of being a part of a progressive and growing real estate business. As further described below, the Director of Accounting will be responsible for performing accounting functions for a select number of properties.
This person will take a lead role in the accounting processes of a 3+ million square foot of privately held commercial property management, leasing, and development real estate company. The Director of Accounting will oversee and manage the accounting and reporting process.
The Director of Accounting is an active leader who reviews and researches current processes and proposes and implements improved methods
Property Accounting Activities:
Supervise the accounting functions.
Review and post journal entries on a monthly and yearly basis.
Reviews transactions, reconciliations, and work paper packages for accuracy.
Assist with the onboarding of new real estate assets.
Ensures the strict adherence for closing and reporting deadlines
Create and implement guidelines for the accounting department to resolve any errors or discrepancies.
Process check requests.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
Work with the Property Accountants and Property Managers to:
Coordinate and execute deliverables.
Create good working relationships.
Respond to tenant inquires and requests.
Prepare and organize the monthly reporting package to ownership.
Maintain good loan servicer relations while reviewing the accuracy and accounting of monthly principal interest, escrow, reserve, and other payments.
Act as the companies liaison for the external auditors.
Provide technical accounting expertise and policy interpretation for complex transactions.
Spearhead special projects and requests as needed.
8-10 years of accounting experience, including 2-4 years of relevant management experience in the real estate business.
Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
MBA or CPA certification highly preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment on critical matters with short lead times.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Strong sense of accountability with a willingness to commit and complete what is required.
Supervisory experience with the ability to coach and mentor team members while working with existing accounting and operational management teams.
Experience with MRI Accounting Software.
Exceptional Excel and other Microsoft Suite skills required.
Excellent time management skills, enabling the completion of responsibilities within deadlines.
Ability to work extended hours when needed.
