Role Summary:
This role provides overarching senior leadership for the EHS Governance organization whose mission is to proactively advancing Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) governance while actively promoting enterprise-wide EHS risk mitigation. This role provides strategic leadership to ensure risk based planning activities are implemented and deployed associated with EHS compliance, management system and other related auditing activities. Additionally, this senior leadership position is also responsible for providing various strategies best suited to perform enterprise-wide EHS risk assessments which will be employed in part to establish audit frequency, identify mitigation strategies, and manage corrective action capture. Finally, this role will provide strategic leadership overseeing the coordination and optimal use of EHS data to conduct predictive analytics as another mechanism to proactively identify and mitigate risk.
Essential Responsibilities:
Overall leadership responsibility for all activities performed within the corporate EHS Governance function including the direct management of governance subject matter experts, indirect leadership for EHS governance activities at the regional and frontline site levels and engagement with external resource providers.
Develop and deploy governance strategies that will provide assurance that operations achieve compliance with applicable regulations and Baxter EHS management system requirements
Leadership responsibility for conducting corporate level EHS compliance and management system audits with both internal and external resources
Drive continuous improvement through data analytics to reduce risk with a rigorous focus on leading indicators
Ensure robust systems are in place for corrective action capture and perform trend analyses with effective communication strategy across the enterprise
Proactively partner and collaborate with Legal, Facilities and Operations teams to proactively mitigate risk
Partner with external EHS Governance organizations, including benchmarking activities to compare programmatic approaches
Develop and sustain EHS governance training programs for various levels across the function
Develop and deploy EHS policies as required to promote engagement and mitigate risk
Organize and lead learning teams in response to EHS events and conduct / validate accident investigations to determine root cause and proactive solutions
DesiredQualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environment, Health & Safety or related science or engineering discipline from an accredited university or college
Minimum 15-20 years professional level experience interpreting and applying state and federal regulations, as well as other regulatory and management system standards in a manufacturing or R&D environment
Minimum of 10 years managing EHS compliance assurance, governance or related functions and direct people management experience
Desired Characteristics
Master's Degree in environmental engineering/science, health & safety, law or other related science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or universityProfessional EHS certification (PE, CPEA, CIH, CSP, CHMM, JD or equivalent) desired
Experience and familiarity with PSM, RMP, Seveso, REACH, ROHS, WEEE, TSCA, EPCRA, SDWA, CWA, RCRA, and CAA Title V regulatory programs
Experience leading, implementing and deploying related EHS ISO schemes across organizations including ISO 14001:2015; ISO 45001: 2018; ISO 50001:2015
Experience leading efforts to proactively mitigate EHS risks broadly across organizations with proven experience employing digital innovation including predictive analytics, scenario based, “what if”, FMEA, Bowtie, and other related auditing risk assessment approaches
Demonstrated experience of successful EHS risk mitigation performance efforts across a business or company context
Ability to influence and interface effectively with site/regional/corporate leadership teams as well as organizations outside Baxter including a variety of external resources
Lean or Six Sigma training a plus
