Overview
HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a Sales Manager for the Special Markets department. This is an exciting opportunity for an initiative-taker who loves books and working with non-traditional outlets to bring our titles to customers beyond traditional and online outlets.
This position reports to the Director of Gift Sales and will be responsible for growing and developing business across multiple sales channels and will work with new and existing accounts to secure placement for adult and children’s titles for the Specialty Wholesale/Catalog and independent Specialty Retail channels, including Edward R. Hamilton, Diamond Comics, Common Ground and pop-culture and health and wellness focused retailers.
Responsibilities
Account Development and Sales
- Develop, maintain, and manage the day-to-day relationships with customers in the assigned territory.
Responsible for selling all frontlist and backlist titles across the HarperCollins adult and children’s lists on a seasonal basis and conduct in-person and virtual previews to customers.
Develop targeted sales pitches, business development outreach, and seasonal presentations.
Daily functions will include maintaining contact with existing accounts and developing opportunities with new and existing customers.
Formulate sales analysis and reporting using internal platforms and tools.
Internal Collaboration
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to develop promotional opportunities, identify marketplace priorities, and maximize distribution and placement of books.
Support and work with sales director to create promotional strategies to develop sales and meet fiscal goals.
Attend and participate in internal meetings, share ideas and opportunities to secure placement of books and develop channel growth.
Provide constructive account feedback and forecasting on titles.
Liaison with internal departments, including Customer Service, Credit and Transportation to successfully manage orders and accounts.
Help organize and attend specialty trade shows such as Public Lands Alliance, Toy Fair, and Shoppe Object.
Qualifications
- College degree or equivalent work experience required.
A minimum of 3 years of trade publishing experience preferred.
Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
Outstanding organizational skills, initiative-taking, and ability to multi-task.
Must possess a strong working knowledge of MS Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and databases.
The salary for this position is $75,000-$85,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
