The CAD Technician is responsible for drafting / handling components (3D & 2D design) for automotive HVAC modules / systems in different virtual environments. He/she generates data, manages data transfer and handles data in a PLM system. He/she works embedded in an international product design team located in the US & Germany & Asia.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Supports the identification of mech. design requirements [CAD, PLM, CAE, data transfer, design integrity, materials, tolerances, acoustics, …] submitted by the customer.
Generates / updates 3D models and prepares / updates 2D drawings of automotive HVAC systems and components in a Unigraphics NX environment.
Generates, reviews and/or maintains mech. design related project documentation: 3D, 2D, GD&T, design guidelines, product specs., BoMs, ... .
Supports / conducts CAD data analysis module and vehicle level and packaging studies.
Releases and manages CAD data (3D, 2D) to/in a PLM system (Teamcenter).
Manages transfer of CAD data from/to customers, suppliers and service providers.
Assists Product Engineering during all tooling phases (concept, build, FOT, dimensional layouts, measurement data evaluation, tuning, trouble-shooting, test fixture design).
Attends customer meetings representing the NA CAD team and to acquire project / program information.
Participates in global team meetings (web-meetings / phone conferences). Experience with working in global team environments is beneficial.
Supports cost saving activities at the component/module/system level.
Limited international and domestic travel has to be expected. The CAD Technician will have occasional customer contact, representing the Product Engineering team. Displaying a professional attitude especially in situations of high pressure as well as the ability of working independently are required capabilities of a person who fills this position.
Special Experience & Skills:
Knowledge of large injection molded plastic part design and tooling, including avoiding undercuts, slide features, drafts and parting lines is required
Experience with designing plastic parts that are over-molded with softer sealing materials or applied foam seals
Knowledge of automotive assembly and error proofing is a plus
Experience of designing plastic and metal parts in Unigraphics NX.
Experience with Teamcenter PLM system is a plus
Experience designing automotive HVAC modules is a plus, but not required Generic Experience,
Skills & Education:
Associate’s Degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience with part modelling and detailing parts for automotive systems
Generic computer skills (standard tools)
Good communication skills and professional attitude
