Beacon Resources seeks a Payroll Director with a strong Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) background for a company in the Santa Clarita Valley on an interim basis, with a strong possibility of direct hire as well.

Job - The Payroll Director will provide extensive payroll support for various domestic operations while overseeing payroll strategy and process. You will report to a VP of Human Resources, and you will be responsible for payroll processing, data entry, and organizing employee files. The company’s bi-weekly payroll cycle is for at least two thousand (2,000) employees. The Payroll Director will also drive all system upgrades

Compensation/Benefits – On an interim basis, hourly rate begins at $65/hour, and increases DOE. Should you be hired on a direct hire basis, salary range starts at $135,000/year, and increases DOE. The company offers good benefits and perks (discounts on tickets and events).

DUTIES OF THE PAYROLL DIRECTOR

Payroll

  • Manage payroll specialists and eventually manage Payroll Managers
  • Review and process payrolls
  • Maintain the payroll process by directing the collection, calculation, data entry, review, and payroll approval
  • Double-check all employee contributions to their 401K plans
  • Hire and train payroll personnel
  • Suggest implementation and upgrades of current payroll software programs
  • Present payroll reports, via PowerPoint and conference calls with Director-level management
  • Sign off on all equity compensation tax withholding matters
  • Approve all manual checks

Compliance

  • Oversee any compliance and internal controls issues involving payroll, including compliance with SOX 404 key controls

Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)

  • Perform System Testing of Updates
  • Analyze and Report HRIS Data via recording specific metrics such as employee hours vis-à-vis their pay stubs
  • Train Payroll Personnel on usage of all new features on all software upgrades
  • Train Payroll Personnel on all new user documentation
  • Assist with System Maintenance during all software periods

Human Resources

  • Collaborate with other departments (HR, IT, Legal, Tax, IA departments) on all personnel matters

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PAYROLL DIRECTOR

Required

  • At least ten (10) years of substantive payroll experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Domestic and international payroll experience
  • Managerial experience with payroll specialists
  • Eligible to work in the United States with the status of a Permanent Resident or US Citizen

Preferred

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Designation

SKILLS OF THE PAYROLL DIRECTOR

Required

Technical

  • Intermediate Level Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Expert Level Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, IF Formulas)
  • Expert Level Proficiency in UltiPro
  • At least five (5) years of experience with a timekeeping program such as Kronos
  • Ability to use metrics to maintain and improve the payroll process
  • Previous implementation experience

Interpersonal

  • Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task efficiently and cooperate with fellow professionals in various disciplines and both office and out-of-office environments
  • Ability to take on a substantial workload to lead the team through example if needed
  • Detail oriented, with high level of ethics and integrity
  • Must be willing to develop and grow with the company and have the desire to take on more responsibility
  • Superior communication skills (oral, written)

Preferred

Technical

  • Expert-level Excel proficiency in v-lookups, offsets, index/matches, IF formulas, pivot tables, table formatting, chart creation, and other Excel functions
  • ADP Workforce Now experience
