The Environmental Affairs team helps United take actions today to shape an environmentally sustainable future. The department oversees environmental compliance, liability, policy, strategy and sustainability.
Job overview and responsibilities
Manager - Design Standards, Environmental Planning and Development, will be responsible for further defining, developing and incorporating sustainability initiatives associated with planning and development projects at various locations across United's portfolio of facilities, including the development and implementation of sustainable design standards and policy across the airline's portfolio. Manager is also responsible for facilitating the incorporation of environmental obligations associated with development projects. Priorities include partnering with CREE colleagues and internal and external stakeholders to successfully communicate, promote and maintain sustainable design standard. Support other duties as assigned.
Project Involvement, Planning and Delivery -Accountable for environmental compliance and sustainability aspects of United’s building and master planning projects.
Help define strategic priorities, develop and execute implementation plans against defined objectives and metrics.
Reduce the impact of United's built environment by implementing, communicating and maintaining sustainable design standards and policy across United's portfolio.
Identify and mitigate environmental risks and minimize long term liability, compliance burden and United's environmental short-term and long-term impacts.
Responsible for understanding and participating in lease reviews and negotiations in partnership with CREE colleagues and airport authorities.
Responsible and accountable for transparent, accurate, consistent project communication with leadership and project management teams. Other duties as assigned.
Coordination with Key Internal and External Stakeholders - Establish and maintain strong business relationships with airport leaders and United internal and external customers.
Act as liaison between CREE partners, operating groups, regulatory agencies, and Environmental Affairs staff to implement sustainability initiatives, particularly sustainable building design standards, and maintain environmental compliance.
Represent CREE in project meetings as required to lead environmental and sustainability initiatives as applicable to airline’s development projects.
Evaluate high performance technologies to determine best return on investment for United.
Report on project performance and building performance in terms of certifications, sustainability measures and initiatives to ensure goals are being achieved.
Management of vendors and environmental consultants, including soliciting bids, writing and managing scope of work, invoicing, and budget management.
Professional Development and Team Engagement - Establishes individual and facility environmental goals that align with United's goals.
Develop individual career development and training plans with leader.
Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects.

Be accountable for providing transparent communication to your staff, Stakeholders and Leadership.
Bachelor's degree in environmental Science/Engineering/Architecture, policy or similar, or comparable environmental work experience, with general understanding of environmental regulations
5+ years of environmental experience in sustainable design standards implementation
LEED or similar
Subject matter expert in sustainable building standards focused on energy use reduction, health and wellness or related area
Environmental regulations related to construction and redevelopment
Design and construction management process and vernacular
Understanding of best practices of Project Management
Ability to think outside the box
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates strong people, planning and organizational skills
Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK and PowerPoint.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
3-5 years Project Management Experience.
Experience managing project teams
Airline, aerospace, or airport experience
PE, PMP, Architect
Knowledge of environmental regulations related to the aviation industry; background in construction safety
