St. Mark Christian Academy is seeking an organized and experienced Librarian/Media Specialist for the 2018-2019 school year. As a ministry of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, SMCA aims to glorify God through quality Christian Education.
LIBRARY MANAGEMENT The Librarian Shall:
-Manage a positive Library environment.
-Maintain the library environment in accordance with the school’s discipline policy.
-Prevent behavior problems by maintaining mobility in the library, interacting with students, redirecting student attention to tasks, and responding promptly to needs.
-Maintain control of student behavior in the library and keep teacher informed of any problems.
-Demonstrate a positive professional attitude toward students.
-Organize the library environment to efficiently meet educational needs of students and to invite learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS The Librarian Shall:
-Frame all instruction with biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education.
-Guide and direct all activities related to the library program and be an advocate that provides knowledge and leadership to steer the library creatively;
-Establish the library media center policy and procedures;
-Supervises and maintain all ongoing and daily functions of the school library media center including the use of electronic resources, software and hardware
-Work with students and teachers in finding library materials and research
-Prepare items for student and teacher use including periodicals, books, and multimedia materials
-Make and assist with library displays and make weekly visits to the library enjoyable and a learning experience for students, to include reading to students, assisting with checking out/in books, and using technology for student computer instruction.
-Process all books and prepare them for shelving and distribution in the library including Accelerated Readers
-Keep careful records of all items and inventory in the library;
-Communicate with teachers and students regarding library activities, materials, and promotion programs
-Deliver directions, explanations, and instructional content in a manner understood by students and appropriate to the subject matter.
-Keep current with developments in the general field of education as well as in the chosen subject matter of emphasis: librarian media resource teacher.
-Implement appropriate technology and media resources in the library.
-Prepare in advance for a substitute teacher
-Make use of school-related resources such as other teachers, media specialist, staff, and administration.
