Job Description
Working in the .NET Experience program will provide you with an opportunity to create a state-of-the-art experience for .NET developers utilizing our Tanzu product portfolio. You will be working with a dedicated team of professionals with a goal to provide a streamlined approach to building applications on cloud platforms. This position will give you the opportunity to work directly on open-source developer productivity tools and with a variety of teams across VMware with similar goals. You will develop innovative solutions and integrations throughout our VMware Tanzu portfolio using technologies like Kubernetes, Tilt, cloud-native buildpacks to create a connected experience between developers and the platforms that run their applications.
We are looking for a software engineer that enjoys working with new technologies and understands the .NET ecosystem. In addition to having a significant background in .NET, we are looking for an individual who can bring ideas and develop integration paths to many of our Tanzu products.
Within your first 6 months:
Within 30 days of employment, you will build a rapport with the .NET Experience team members, an understanding of the project capabilities, and be able to actively contribute to one or more areas on the project
Within 90 days, you will understand the team’s development, testing, review, and documentation processes
After 6 months+:
You will be contributing quality code that has been tested and verified
You will be challenged with making significant contributions to a feature or enhancement and provide support to our .NET open source community along with our internal and external customers
You will be able to document, discuss, and demonstrate the benefits of our developer productivity products to our users (internally and externally)
You will be responsible for researching, designing, and delivering technical solutions based on product requirements
Your regular work activities will vary depending on priorities, but you can expect some of the following:
Using your C#/.NET skills to develop tools for developers, such as Visual Studio extensions, that provide our users a better experience when developing microservices and/or data-driven applications
Diagnosing issues and providing solutions as needed
Using other technologies (e.g. Java/Spring, Typescript) as reference implementations
Communicating and collaborating with other VMware teams on integration points
Documenting features and solutions in order for our users to have a clear path to get started
Reaching out to the .NET community via conferences, videos, and/or blogs
Communicating effectively with the team regarding any questions, roadblocks, issues, or concerns
This position reports to the engineering manager of the .NET Experience Program, an experienced engineer with a strong technical background in software development, a passion for building the community of users around open-source projects like Steeltoe, while also supporting each team member in the growth of their career. The team consists of many different technical skills and backgrounds, but all of them center around their love for .NET. We all work closely with each other using tools like GitHub, Zoom, and Slack.
We are dedicated to addressing a shift in software development to Kubernetes based cloud platforms and focused on a vision to bring tooling and libraries that allow developers to build applications and not worry as much about the infrastructure. We are looking for independent thinkers, problem solvers, and engineers that are willing to express their ideas across the team.
We operate as a remote team and are flexible for locations, but we prefer if there is availability during the Eastern time zone workday for daily collaboration and team meetings.
You and your loved ones will be supported with a competitive and comprehensive benefits package. Below are some highlights, or you can view the complete benefits package by visiting www.benefits.vmware.com.
