History
Originally established by the SF Sheriff’s Department (2003) as the first charter school in the nation to operate inside of a county jail, today Five Keys is a nationally recognized education management (non-profit) corporation that operates accredited charter schools and programs for TAY youth and adults at 70 locations across California. Five Keys operates with the goal of restoring communities through education and other programs that respond to the students’ and community needs-which in turn creates safer communities.

Five Keys provides a range of educational programs and services including: high school diploma, career and technical education, digital literacy, ESL, cognitive behavioral, recovery programs, case management, correctional education consulting and college access to transitional aged youth and adults in seven California counties.

SUMMARY
This is an entry-level position onto our HR team. The Payroll Clerk will support the Payroll Specialist and NorCal Sr. HR Generalist. The Clerk will learn systems and processes quickly, be a rockstar with data entry and enjoy explaining information to others. The majority of the day will be spent working on payroll related action items and projects. The Clerk will monitor emails, organize action items, complete tasks, communicate information and answer questions. This is an extremely detail orientated person who is enthusiastic about learning and growing with the organization.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Learns the payroll system (currently Paylocity)
Assists with data entry for the payroll processing for 400+ employees on a semi-monthly basis
Collaborates with HR team and managers to complete payroll-related tasks in preparation for each processing period
Answers questions and responds to employee concerns in a positive, professional manner
Builds Excel spreadsheets and tracks tasks and data
Mails/ships packages and mail as needed
Ensures confidentiality of personnel records
Maintains Human Resource Information System records (currently Paylocity)
Recommends new approaches or processes to improve department efficiencies and effectiveness
Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as needed
Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Required Experience:
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Requires excellent interpersonal skills and computer literacy
Must be tech savvy, able to learn and navigate the HRIS system (currently Paylocity)
Excellent ability to enter detailed information into a database, cross-checking for accuracy
Eagerness to learn new things and adapt to constantly changing circumstances
Advanced proficiency in MS Office and professional communication, including spelling and grammar
Experience with Excel
Experience with Gmail, Google Drive and Google Sheets
Requires effective oral and written communication skills; ability to express complex ideas with clarity and precision in written documents
Excellent typing skills and attention to detail, especially when doing data entry
Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality and take all precautions when handling sensitive information
Must have excellent customer service skills and be willing to go the extra mile
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

This position typically requires:
High school diploma or equivalent; BS/BA in accounting or business administration is a plus
Minimum of 2 years experience working in a professional environment
Payroll experience is a plus
Paylocity (HRIS system) experience is a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting
Frequent talking and hearing conversations
Occasional reaching with hands and arms
Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds
Ability to follow oral directions in emergency situations
Limited travel to additional sites as needed
